23/3/2011 09:21 | True Pojscott true beats me but we will just have to be patient. If you believe the bull case hold, add and wait and it will come good I'm confident. If you believe the bear case then sell. I'm holding and may add a few more but they are already a large part of my portfolio now. | yorgi
23/3/2011 09:18 | someuwin Could you please post the FT article on here as I am not a subscriber to FT? Thanks | phoenixbird

22/3/2011 11:27 | is it possible that the contracts that AVN is signing up are not all based purely on price ? is it possible that AVN is offering some value-added that the others aren't which will allow it to secure premium pricing? my understanding of business is that when something is being sold purely on price it is because it is a commodity. so in this marketplace it would imply that everyone's "raw" Ka-band offering was the same or very similar. is this the case ? for example, with crude oil there are differences between the qualities of WTI and Brent and other crudes, and this is reflected in their relative pricing, which will normally move up and down in relative synchronicity. but is AVN offering simple "raw" Ka-band, or is it offering "services" based on Ka-band ? it is services which offer some added-value that differentiate a company's product offerings and enable premium pricing and better profitability. can anyone shed light on which business AVN is in: a "raw" Ka-band wholesaler or an added value Ka-band-based service provider ? | backmarker
21/3/2011 23:06 | Interesting article in today's FT talking about Bearish research notes, Investec and AVN... | someuwin
21/3/2011 18:59 | Two brief points:- 1) SC's post 4674 states "TW is reproducing Avanti's paid team's comments." TW however, in one of his rebuttals to SC's original post on this BB that he was short AVN, stated "We however read the above's comments with amazement and the fact that we actually do our own research meant we were happy to take advantage of the opportunity that was given to us and added to our holdings." These two statements are incompatible. I would like to know TW's response to SC's above statement in post 4674. Can someone who is in touch with TW ask him to comment? 2) I think I am right in stating that the Investec analyst with the Sell recommendation (the only analyst as far as I know with a Sell recommendation) has a price target of 488p. Today's closing price is 466.25p. In my simple mind this means the share price has overshot his Sell price target implying that even by his own bearish views AVN is now fractionally undervalued and thereby no longer worth shorting. Or is there more to it than this? | garymott
21/3/2011 17:48 | graph hinting at another sharp leg up.. | tsmith2
21/3/2011 17:22 | henryatkin From what iv read the latency or delay should be about 0.5 to 1.5 seconds , im not a techie so perhaps someone a bit more qualified would comment . | colva

21/3/2011 16:20 | The Count "along with a simple refusal to answer direct questions that refute the supposed 'research' Simon has already posted that he is relying on the research of the broker and hasn't done any reaearch himself. He is not therefore in a position to answer any questions. His style seems to be to trade on tips from contacts and it looks like he puts as much research into his share trades as he does his footie bets. That is just the way he does things so its hardly surprising that he is doesn't have command of the detail. | mjames20
21/3/2011 16:01 | Agreed The Count | yorgi
21/3/2011 15:53 | --->GREENGIANT In an ideal world, things may indeed operate as you say and that is how they should operate. But it is not an ideal world so that view is rose coloured I'm afraid. These scumbags deliberately spread flakey information and trade on fear. They know that in stock market terms, prices can be driven by fear and greed, and fear is by far the greater of the two. So when investors, many of whom will have done their research to a variety of depths, see a steady and daily share price fall, they will get scared off and some will sell some or all of their holdings fearing that there may be something in the market that they are not aware of. I have no problem with either a bull or bear argument, but not one that deliberately takes no notice of the counter argument and just carries on repeating their (deliberately) wrong interpretation of the market in the hope that some muck will eventually stick. Regards, THE COUNT! | the count
21/3/2011 15:29 | The COUNT, I don't mind SC and his informant, he raised some very valid points, however, he also raised some very misinformed points which have been answered by people far more intelligent than me. However, I would question how much this informant knows about the market, he claims to have spoken to resellers, yet I know for a fact that he hasn't spoken to the biggest 2 who will give unbiased answers. He also failed to answer the point on usage packages, continuing to compare apples with pears. He also doen't know that currently over 80% of Tooway's customers in the UK are being served via EuroBird 3 at 33° east as opposed to HotBird 6 at 13° east, and went so far as to tell Cenkos their report was wrong for tabling Ku as opposed to Ka, when the vast majority is Ku. I could go on, but I wont. It is SC's money and if you have done your research, you should have no worries about the incorrect information he is spouting. After all, this whole campaign started on the premise that they could not understand how they could compete on price. Yet the Interims and in service announcement both stated that prices were above market expectations. Let management be your guide, not someone who is completely ignorant about the market and his informant. After all, how many years experience in this market do they have? gg | greengiant
21/3/2011 15:24 | Thats what they said. I did question 14 or 40 and they replied about 40. | henryatkin
21/3/2011 15:11 | 40 second delay ? | colva
21/3/2011 14:47 | To answer my own question Avonline support have got back to me - approx 40 second delay so not suitable for trading. I'm in an isolated bit of Kent where BT are painfully slow, Vfast radio broadband can't transmit through trees, no 3g signal & satallite gives latency problems. | henryatkin |
