US Q4 GDP +3.3%, above forecast (+2%) but below Q3 (+4.9%)

Zoo - agree, but productions have been delayed was my take on their update. My only concern more recently was the implication that they now factor in emergency type weather events into their financial forecasting - which from my memory wasn't the case previously. So how are they forecasting weather events when billions of dollars in satellites etc cannot accurately predict more than a few days of forecasts?, are they over estimating abnormal events?, prefer they didn't even try tbh.

Thanks Disco. I heard the Zoo news earlier today and with what I understand their business is in film post production so it will take longer to get the film business back compared to Ashtead providing the kit for filming. My small concern is that we had a safe pair of hands in Geoff Drabble as CEO and Brendan Horgan is up to the job and the profit warning around film was the route of the problem. With Brendan being in post as CEO since the end of 2019 and being a long time senior officer at Ashtead I do feel re-assured somewhat that he too should know what he is doing. I'm glad to see that AHT has risen but note URI has gone even higher and at another all time high.

Always a fan you know that, but times are hard for me and the hound (plus one now!), and we can’t afford the privilege of downticking - not due to content I hasten to add but hatred in my case, and by association in your case lol, sorry.

c_kPerhaps recent weakness may be associated with some companies within the TV & Film industry are still suffering from a bit of a hangover from the actors and writers strike last year (Zoo digital for one reported today that productions have been delayed). The strike was partially blamed for them downgrading guidance in November. That said from the article below, it's suggesting things are definitely picking up in "North Hollywood" (ie Canada film industry).Who knows!HTTPS://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7068230

URI up 4% at 600 and beat profit forecasts. I am starting to get a little concerned why AHT is not following upwards and appears to being ignored. Is URI taking market share or is AHT good value? I lean towards the latter but have stopped increasing my stake. I'm interested knowing views.

Good day Mr bThanks for the debt info, interesting that UK is below GDP, but did think I read the last reading was substantially below what they forecast. Point being the UK and US both have debt whether or not it predicates their existence is debatable....IMVHO.The stray is very sad, in all aspects, poor thing. It does need some professional care and with the hound I haven't the time....does generate additional tips though due to its puppy dog eyes so not all bad news! :)Have a good day.

True but much of the US rise is down to 3-5 companies and massive government deficit.

I don't argue that UK is in poor shape but the US economy exists on debt.

It didn't drop, it did the opposite, so much for normality. It appears much of the rise was due to the chip makers and AI possibilities. The question now is can they deliver the earnings the valuations suggest.

AHT share price looking a little lack lustre currently maybe the earnings report on 5th March will bring some cheer. URI earnings report is on 24 January.

I thought it would be interesting to compare the AHT and URI charts. The red vertical line is the October low.

Yes I noted Wincanton news as had it on my watch list - another one that got away!.Value will out in the end and a lot of quality UK Small Caps are so undervalued at the moment.Sorry for off topic - I'll throw in 12 months of dog food?, can't afford two hounds.

I saw that graph comparison of the S&P500 and the FTSE-250. 80% rise since 2019 for the former, 1% rise in same timeframe for the latter. That's why so many UK companies are being taken over by foreign companies - grossly undervalued.

Wincanton is the latest. To be bought by the French shipping giant CMA CGM.
