I anticipate Ashtead will suspend the buyback and possibly the dividend shortly.

This CV is a game changer, over 30 companies have already suspended their dividend payments.

FINALLY managed to trade, but not where I wanted due to Halifax dealing not coping with demand, perhaps? Sold 50% of my long term holding. Not a huge amount compared with you big boys, but safe guarding my profit with the hope of buying back in at a lower price one day. As suggested, this current madness might only be the start. Good luck all.

BBerg says US airlines are asking for $50bn bailout

But the have spent $45bn+ on buybacks in the last 10 years.

The bailout should be NEW shares at the current (or lower) share price.

That will save the investors from losing everything , save the jobs, but give the state something in return.

Maybe teach investors to be more prudent in future and STOP the buybacks..

Bracke , good day, Bloomberg finally waking up and talking about high leverage and buybacks...

Some of us voices in the wilderness were on about that for a long time.....

So now despite some previously wanting to shut down the discussion it becomes front and centre.

As said California shut down, surely Washington state to follow, that leaves Oregon in between - I know people there who want Oregon shut down.

That should spread - when it does AHT like everyone else will need all the cash they can get their hands on

Good day clarky

I hope you are well.....at least for the present.

I refer you to my post 57880.

The virus situation is far from over. On the news this morning that California is in total lock down, that's 60 million people. Each day adds to the woe.

The share price has pulled itself up to £16 this morning but I would be surprised if it stayed there or even close to it. Volatility over the coming weeks will continue. I previously mentioned £12 as a previous support zone which I expect to be revisited.

Perhaps if the AHT Board announced that they were ceasing the buy back operation it may help the share price

AHT has tried to break £12 on two occasions and failed (dramatically today) twice. Bracke, you have proven to be past master at this. Are we calling that (near) bottom??

I'm glad I dont trade anymore. I'd have been dead by now. I used to enjoy it but dont miss it, nursing 15% fall in one pension and nearer 30% in another (thankfully a lot smaller). But would I have done better than an DFM? Maybe, but see above. And actually the 0.5% fee seems value just now saving 15% against the smaller portfolio which sits in a mix of off the shelf funds...
