Bearing in mind that AHT is heavily affected by the economic cycle and that the US is a long way through the cycle.Perhaps that is the reason for the market reaction. Whatever the reason it pales into insignificance against a Trump Tweet.

I can confirm there is lots of Sunbelt equipment on hire at Premium tourist destinations in Florida - that looks permanent ....

Thanks for the link and your comments. I share you view, AHT seems to be executing their growth strategy as planned, so no cause for alarm there.

Looking forward to seeing the full year's figures in June, particularly the free cash figure, and how this is to be utilised.

IanFrom their Annual Report 2017, Growth Strategy 2021:-"Our goal in the medium to long term is to double our market share in the US and grow it by 50% in the UK".Cannot find a split for North America which would include Canada.The article below only mentions increasing the location footprint of Sunbelt by 50%, it's not country specific or revenue specific, so could possibly just assume that its growth has achieved 50% in the first half of their 5 year plan and thus their 2021 strategy of doubling in the US is on target - in which case nothing new really!.hTTp://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/195331/ashtead-group-predicts-full-year-results-in-line-with-expectations-as-it-prepares-investor-event-195331.htmlDD

"Industrial equipment rental group AHT slipped after it revealed plans to increase its North American footprint by 50%.

Good day Disco

I think you will see on the chart below the reason for the dashed magenta. On two occasions it has been resistance for major swing highs. It also defines the shoulders of a 'head & shoulders'. The share price needs to break above this resistance to make an attempt at an All Time High.

I note it tried again today but failed. Perhaps it will retrace before another attempt.

RNS: Re Investor event and trading update

Ashtead Group plc is holding a two day investor event in New York commencing today, April 19, 2018.

Interested to see what impact this has on AHT price action in the coming days after a recent promising AHT price run faltered today.

Yesterday the share price got to within a few points of the dashed magenta and was resisted. Today it has dropped back to the black trend line which has supported.

What next? Trys again to break above the dashed magenta or drops below the black trend line and continues down to test the blue horizontal line which is a previous swing high.

The share price has reached the ML and as I type is 17 points short of the dashed magenta (see chart above). There is a high probability it will continue to the dashed magenta where resistance is likely.

If you read up on Breakaway Gap you will see that the gap you refer to fulfils the criteria for a Breakaway. I suggest that the price action since the gap supports the analysis of Breakaway.

I don't argue that at some point it will fill, it's a question of when.

With Mr Trump in the White House we live in 'interesting times'. Who knows what he will say or do!

BTW I have kept records of Daily close/open FTSE gaps since 2009. Of the 577 I have recorded 20 (3.46%) are unfilled and 6 of those occurred in 2018.

Hi Bracke good day to you. Sorry but I am not knowledgeable enough to give an educated opinion. I can only say that the three shares I dabble in, usually allways fill the gaps. (eventually) AHT, AGL, TLW.

Plus 29p @ £20.60 at the close, must be an AHT Friday!

I think brackes' view was that that was a 'breakaway' gap, so not necessarily a problem. Two posturing bullies with their fingers poised over nuclear triggers is a bit more of a concern!
