...Associated investments, which increased by GBP1.5m over the prior year. Once again the decline in value of the Turkish Lira has meant that we are showing an accounting loss through Other Comprehensive Income primarily on the translation of our opening balances of our overseas subsidiaries at closing rates of exchange. These losses are not realised unless we divest ourselves of such assets. ...

am i getting it rigt ... almost no profit from our main investment after the exchange losses accounted ...

eg.. 1,5 mio real profit for AAU sitting on and producing all this gold in Turkey

getting USD profits ... to compensate ... can not be repeted

talking about the Co fair valuation

The new flagship asset plan is certainly something to be very interested in. As ever it bodes well, but could be slow.

On the surface not much new in the results, but many positives.

Gold is flirting with $2,000, optimistic about production at Tavsan, another profit (albeit smaller), most importantly debt-free as well.

I found this piece intriguing, and maybe a pointer towards much better times ahead here:-

"We are resolutely focused on upscaling the Company by pursuing bold objectives. In particular we are keen to advance on larger projects capable of supporting the Company on its journey towards becoming a mid-tier mine developer. As part of this process, we are going to pursue support from investors from further afield and will be marketing the Company accordingly. In parallel with this we are undertaking several project and jurisdictional reviews with the aim of securing a significant new flagship asset around which the future of the Company may continue to be built."

operating a mine probably needs constant hands-on management attention

dixi - journey towards becoming a mid-tier mine developer....

i would prefer operator instead of developer ...

as imho they do not sell their superb operational work at high enough prices to their partners ... it is better to do it all to the end by AAU to reap all the benefits alone

Perhaps Mikey has the chart on his wall upside down.

Well that is a very long read, I cannot see much new in there after an initial scan through. But this may be interesting... (whatever it actually means - is this all smoke and mirrors?):

We are of course hoping that Apliki doesn't get snapped up by a 3rd party while this dithering continues. AAU obviously could keep loaning to Venus via convertibles and hence keep nibbling away until the ownership increases above 58% to 60%, 70%......

I am not sure why the ipo is not happening and would hope Ariana would give us a frank explanation why, as ipos are still happening, and what is the plan b for Cyprus or is it literally just to sit it out however long it takes with us keep giving Venus seed money to keep it a going concern.
It's things like that where I think shareholders are let down most.
I don't think for a minute the company should tell us everything because there will be times when they can't but in the absence of everything else to gauge performance or see the ongoing plan then there should be a discussion of what the forward plan is for Cyprus and some sort of timeline.
It is exasperating as Apliki would have filled the hole nicely that is rapidly developing between the drop off of production from Kiz and production 'hopefully' starting at Tavsan.

I think AAU are the majority holders in Venus (58% now?) though I may be out of touch. But that doesn't mean it can force through what it likes, indeed what we want, by buying Apliki via Venus if the latter cant finance the asking price. As 'just' a shareholder AAU cant provide up the necessary cash without it being a loan to Venus, as providing cash wont itself increase the 58% - in other words without it being a loan it would simply enrich the 42% (proportionately). AAU needs to take over the 42% so Venus becomes wholly owned subsidiary, but that would have to be by agreement with other Venus shareholders as Venus is a private company so AAU cannot mount a hostile takeover. The IPO doesn't seem to be happening, presumably as the likely price achieved would be poor. It appears to be a mess, but let's hope for an RNS soon to surprise us. And maybe another about Salinbas/ Ardala

Venus Loan notes converted to shares now, so does that mean we(AAU) are in control? if so it will be interesting to see which direction KS takes this, who will be staying and who will be going? can't see how all there are adding value to the operation, but behind the scenes you never know.

Not sure it's a write off JD but it might be in the cold for a good while yet.
If we had kept Apliki and kept to the timelines first promoted, we would now have been months away from production there. OK I know Ariana keeping to timelines is stretching it a bit far.

Shareholders do need a full and frank update about Cyprus.
We have spent a lot of money on exploration and we have bailed Venus out for a considerable amount.
It seems to me Cyprus is one of the projects, as some were mentioning yesterday, where Kerim is just happy to sit and wait however long it takes for the market to improve.
However this doesn't suit most shareholders or help attract new one's.

Anyway the results will be out at the end of the month so at least we will get some sort of update this month.

3 months to the day since Tavsan was put on ice.
