23/1/2021 17:09 | Yump, Lehman brothers even went out of their way to tell the world that they were solvent and adequately funded....just days before they crashed pre-credit crunch. I wouldn't expect any warnings. | ![]() 2tyke
23/1/2021 17:04 | Nico, That's exactly the case. If the btc consolidation is over, you should be reading bearish news articles about it. You should not be reading positive things in press. Yes, the perma-bulls will always be saying the same thing. They don't count...crack-pots. | ![]() 2tyke
23/1/2021 17:02 | Many Thanks for the podcast link alm6. It was much appreciated and very interesting to listen to. All adds to the research I need to do. I found a lot of his comments to be fair and reasoned and others to be a bit myopic (perhaps a touch of confirmation bias). I thought he ignored inflation through divisibility. Its always possible to move that decimal point one more place.(Assuming there is no technical limit that I am not yet aware of.) I don't particularly consider this an issue, I just wish he'd been open about it. I thought he glossed over the possibility of technical obsolescence or a newer better alternatives coming along, but I guess that is Bitcoin specific. There are always going to be plenty of new crypto currencies looking to be the new Bitcoin. However Argo should be able to adapt to circumstances if things change. He glossed over the tether issues and made some assumptions about human nature and what people might do in a crisis such as tether imploding. In times of crisis you cant always predict behavior or outcomes. I don't think this would necessarily kill crypto but it might well act as something of a speed bump for a period of time. I can't help but suspect there may be something not quite right about tether, if for no other reason that fraud often likes to find a home where no one is looking closely. I also suspect that Government oversight and regulation will be attempted at some point in the future. Though I don't know whether this would be successful or not. His argument against government control was quite compelling. But governments do like to meddle. I've also had chance to do a bit more digging on Argo and was pleasantly surprised by progress so far. Also with their short to medium term prospects. They will have to work harder and smarter as time progresses. Constantly reinvesting as crypto mining becomes more difficult, halving takes place and coins are mined out . The recent placing is an indication of this as they need to replace the older obsolete mining machines. Not sure what the longer term strategic goals are, but they will need some for the future. I suspect the current share price has got a bit ahead of itself at the moment. Given the volatile nature of the crypto markets this is to be expected. But markets rarely works in straight lines and usually present suitable entry and exit points over time. (Not always perhaps, but more often than not). Timing will be the key for me. I like that Argo presents exposure to crypto currencies via mining and they seem to be doing a reasonable job so far. I will certainly be keeping an eye on this for the time being. Once again Many Thanks | j33v3s

23/1/2021 14:56 | I just love the irony of the implied security of central banks, or just banks in general. Where were the investment risk warnings about banks pre Lehman ? - because the banks should have spotted what was happening. Where were the investment risk warnings about physical retail and retail property income shares ? What about 1998 ? I believe there was some sort of banking crisis then as well. | ![]() yump

23/1/2021 12:06 | One of the biggest BTC threats is not who's bullish or who's bearish; it's Tether. Their operation is a BTC derivative one alleging 1 tether = $1. This is increasingly being de-bunked as a claim and Tether are under investigation by the US authorities. The gearing ratios in Tethers to BTCs is scary. | ![]() ridicule
