This includes Bitcoin, but also any other cryptocurrency that can be mined like Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and ZCash. And while bitcoin might be the most valuable cryptocurrency in the market, it’s not necessarily the most profitable to mine. In fact, coins like ZCash, Ethereum, and Litecoin are quite often much more profitable to mine.

Jeeves, listen to this see what you think at the end. Ultimately it's your decision but by it's nature it is a volatile and high risk proposition. Don't expect the safety and consistent low returns of a blue chip fund or savings bond.

As a novice to crypto currencies I have been doing a bit of research on crypto and am investigating ARB as a possible way to gain exposure.

As part of this research I have come across a number of articles relating to crypto currency risks associated with tether.

In particular, I found the following to be of concern.

Has anyone else come across this and know whether this a legitimate issue or can this be debunked. I assume there are some well researched and knowledgeable people on here who will be able cast some light on this.

Many Thanks

“I think it important we consider the benefits of cryptocurrencies and other digital assets, and the potential they have to improve the efficiency of the financial system,” Yellen stated.

...Overall, the steps Yellen has outlined will provide more certainty and help legitimize cryptocurrencies as a whole. Moreover, the regulatory framework that she plans to create will help bolster investors’ confidence, especially institutional investors.

Hotaim,

It's never going to be a case of bitcoin failing....it isn't real and has no existence outside of investment purposes.
As such, like all traded tickers it follows asset cycles. It will rise in 5 waves and then crash in 3 waves...before building slowly again.

SuffersNoFools you should read up about aquis listed KR1 ... they have a profitable, cash generative crypto business. When they get their act together and move to AIM / NASDAQ they will go up by at least 100%

I think what you'll find with these two, arb and obc.
Both are correlated with btc, at least short-term. I think obc is actually by far the more volatile of the two when going up, so that will gain the most if btc continues to rise, which it probably will medium term. Importantly though, I don't think obc will get clobbered quite as much as arb when btc falls. So yes, what's not to like.
I do disagree with the importance of revenue stream. It didn't matter in the dot-com boom....and it won't matter now imo.
I've only got a modest position.

Tyke - exactly it's a play thing. Fine for 25k tops. Hope you do well but without cash it's only got so far it can go. There is no growing HODL stash or revenue stream to underpin. I know you'll say that's irrelevant but I don't agree with equities. I like a viable business. Forex yes. Take your point re leverage but if you're not bullish on BTC then you're in the wrong place anyway. ARB is a geared derivative of a volatile underlying asset - what's not to love :) I'm already derisked so along for the ride now.
