Eh? I pay exactly the same charges whether in my Shares ISAs or without.

Hope that the 1.40 level proves so hard to breach on the way down! (only kidding, I hope it never falls that much from where it’s headed). Seems like the market needs to see the actual numbers before we will see the share price start to fulfill its potential (patience dear boy and all that). On a different matter what a swindle the ‘bed and ISA’ process is (had forgotten how expensive it is to trade/hold shares outside the wrapper before importing them. 🙈🤷‍♂️😂

'The invention of Li–S batteries dates back to the 1960s, when Herbert and Ulam patented in 1962, a primary battery employing lithium or lithium alloys as anodic material, sulfur as cathodic material' (source Wikipedia)

Primary advantage of Li-S is lightweight, high energy density and lower cost by replacing the high cost of the metallic cathode. Li-s batteries have been demonstrated in niche applications, particularly aerospace.

The many developers of this potential improvement in technology have yet to overcome the limitations to power output, charge time and cycle lifetime. Though very recent reports from a Korean team appear to have identified a potential catalyst which might overcome the cycle lifetime is to add - Cobalt Oxalate. Yes folks, it may be that the best way to overcome removal of cobalt from the battery - is to add back some cobalt!

For many years battery developers have been searching to find a way past the Lithium Cobalt Oxide battery for improved energy storage density but also because of the cost and environmental concerns over cobalt. The recent switch to Lithium Iron Phosphate by Tesla and others is a retrograde step - reducing cost but also performance which may prove to be acceptable for some lower cost and power applications but is unlikely to dent the demand for Cobalt on its own.

I, for one, hope tht they do make a breakthrough in battery technology soon - but I remember discussing this with a phd candidate at Southampton university in 1983 when sony were already commercialising the UKAEA lithium cobalt designs - and we are still waiting.

It seems that developments in the battery world take longer than we'd like - I suspect that APF management have come to the same conclusion, that Lithium Cobalt batteries will be superceded - but not before APF makes its money back. In the meantime there is some probability that supply constraints and ESG concerns will give APF a premium for its stream. That's a risk I am happy to back the management on - parricularly as just one part of the APF pivot to new materials - though if the facts change I reserve the right to change my mind,

cheers

Thanks for those links buywell3. Great bit of investigative research there. I wasn't even aware of Li-S batteries. The technology is developing rapidly.

Researchers at Monash University in Australia have developed a very high-performance and energy-efficient lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery with a potential electric vehicle (EV) range of 1000 km.

EV's will get over twice the mileage between charges and then the battery weight will be 60% lighter
This means Li-S batteries imo will win market share
Also claimed to be safer too
2.5X higher specific energy compared to today's lithium-ion batteries, they are capable of operating without losses in extremely high and low temperatures with minimal conditioning which improves the overall efficiency,
Plus imo they will be cheaper to make as they do not use you know what

I agree with you Cocopah. The combination of energy storage and smart distribution of energy is the way forward. Companies like SSE are working on 'smart grid' applications in order to smooth out the peaks and troughs of demand. What they're doing with BYD and their 'vehicle to grid' tech is an example of this.

#cocopops, I see storage of electricity demands only going one way with the EV revolution accelerating now, and that curve is exponential..

Business needs power outage backup storage, EV charging stations, plus all the home based power wall + solar/wind DIY getting bigger, if you have power storage to fill up at night cheaper you can sell or use it in the day a bit like the economy7.. :o)

LLB I’ve been looking recently at energy storage and especially the small cap ITs of Gresham House Energy and Gore Street Energy. I really think energy storage is going to be significant in the future, what are your thoughts?

#The Deacon, I missed this too, February 08 2021, Largo is pleased to announce that it has prepaid in full all of its outstanding credit facilities in Brazil that were scheduled to mature on March 12 and March 18 2021 respectively, the Company is now debt-free and we look forward to advancing our strategic growth initiatives..

We expect 2021 to be an exceptional year for the Company as we look to deliver on our increased annual production and sales targets. Additionally, vanadium prices continue to strengthen in all main markets on the back of robust demand and low inventories..

We also believe that the fast-growing renewable energy storage market is expected to significantly drive additional demand growth of vanadium redox flow batteries in the years to come.

Global EV sales are expected to rocket 50% in 2021 to 4.7 million vehicles and soar to 14.3 million by 2025, consultancy Rho Motion estimated, underpinning cobalt demand.

Osisko Gold Royalties has the silver stream on the Mantos copper mine. On a recent earnings call the CEO was very bullish on the prospects there over the coming year, now that the expansion is more or less complete, and the life of mine has been extended to approx 2035

#sporazene2, solid progress there, really looking forward to Q1 update and see the impact of USD4 Copper on income for us..

I see us having 2/3 maybe 4 really strong years now before Kestrel winds off, pending what panels are left under our royalty footprint..

The Group has a 1.525% NSR royalty with Mantos Copper over all copper produced at the Mantos Blancos Mine located in Chile, de bottle necking will extend Mantos Blancos life to 2035..

100,000 Tonnes a year at USD 4/lb at our GRR rate comes in at USD13.5M | a little under GBP10M a year FX depending..

For 2021, I get over GBP80M income now best estimate
18.8p EPS | 9-10p DPS | PE12 | SP225p target... :o)

Kestrel | GBP 37M (same as 2019)
Maracás Menchen | 4M
Narrabri | 4M
Mantos Blancos | 10M
Four Mile | 1M ..?
EVBC | 2.5M
LIORC dividends | 4.8M received in Q1 +2M rest of year | 6.8M total
McClean Lake & Jogjakarta | 1M ..?
Voiseys Bay | 16.5M

I have some shares in SEQI and under the FSDR classification RNS they released yesterday I can now see how/why the VB good ESG status will he so useful to us in global trade ... FYI the classifications are ... Article 9, or dark green, which applies to products that have sustainable objectives; - Article 8, or light green, which covers financial products that promote environmental or social characteristics as part of the broad investment strategy; - Article 6, or grey, which applies to products that either consider ESG risks as part of the investment process or are explicitly declared as non-sustainable.

I would imagine that we would be a shoo-in at Article 9.

Mantos Copper debottlenecking project 70% complete as of 4 weeks ago. Copper prices holding above $4 so a great time to be getting the remaining 30% completed. I am hopeful of increased revenue this year from this royalty but 2022 already starting to look interestinghttps://www.nsenergybusiness.com/news/mantos-copper-mantoverde-development-project/#

Great article on Bloomberg under "Electric Cars Will Cost More Using Ethically Sourced Batteries"

Basically the EU is proposing that Cobalt amongst other metals are to be resourced responsibly. They will require due diligence on the supply chain.

This may reduce supply to the EU as in the DRC as much as a third of supply is by small outfits who work in dangerous conditions and there is concerns of using child labour.

Demand for responsibly sourced Cobalt will rise dramatically.

Great news to update on the closing on the VB deal.. :o)

JT suggests an average of USD23M income per year over the LOM for the royalty in the Proactive interview.

#Cocopops, I forecast around GBP70M income for 2021, as LIORC has now reduced 75% to offset some of the VB income, our best year was 2019 and GBP59.5M..

Kestrel has a 3 or 4 years left on our royalty panels from what I can make out, so we should have some really strong years coming..

With Q1 ending in 2/3 weeks the update in April will be very interesting indeed and set our stall out for the year on the rising commodity prices..
