Glad we have some common ground.
Edit
If you are going to finish on fear of invasion by Russia I would point out there are only 22 countries in the world the UK has not invaded.

Freedom of speech in the UK is better is your point, ooookay. Well you must be missing how our rights are being erroding right now but that is a whole different argument and has sod all to do with who started the Ukraine war and why. As I said, off down a rabbit hole.

Anyway, enough. I believe people should be able to choose their own fate. Ukraine, Taiwan, Scotland, Falklands, Catalonia, all the same. Nobody wants to invade Russia. But the neighbours of Russia have learned, through history, not to trust the Russians.

Pogue,You utterly misread my post then. The point isn't that the Russians committed an atrocity but that the museums still glorify it and you'd quickly get beaten up if you questioned that. You then posted a piece about British atrocities that, allegedly, we would like "erased from history". In the UK, nobody disputes them. That's the difference. Freedom of speech. Not whether a century ago someone did something bad. But whether you can safely talk about it today. If you question Putin's version, you get thrown out of the window. That's the difference.

you post a story about Russians killing innocent people and say they have never changed. I post on from the same time period around 1900 showing the Brits massacring innocents. You went down the rabbit hole not me.

You have a problem your rose tinted glasses have turned completed opaque. Just one example from the glorious past of the British Empire from above list.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919. A large crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, British India, during the annual Baishakhi fair to protest against the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of pro-Indian independence activists Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal. In response to the public gathering, the temporary brigadier general R. E. H. Dyer surrounded the people with his Gurkha and Sikh infantry regiments of the British Indian Army. The Jallianwala Bagh could only be exited on one side, as its other three sides were enclosed by buildings. After blocking the exit with his troops, Dyer ordered them to shoot at the crowd, continuing to fire even as the protestors tried to flee. The troops kept on firing until their ammunition was low and they were ordered to stop. Estimates of those killed vary from 379 to 1,500 or more people; over 1,200 others were injured, of whom 192 sustained serious injuries.

That's called whatabouteryThe difference is that in the UK we have scholars studying British history. In Russia (and Turkey, and Azerbaijan for that matter) questioning the government version of history is very dangerous.

In Thurbron's book he visits the museum in Blagoveshchensk where there is a painting showing how, with rifles and the support of peasant women, brave Cossaks repelled a cannon attack from the Chinese across the river. The events happened in 1900. The painting was unveiled in 1902.In fact, the border town had always had a large Chinese population and, in 1900, the Russians grew paranoid that the Chinese wanted to take over and slaughtered them. At least 5,000 were marched to the river at its fastest point and given the choice of drowning or being hacked to death with machetes. At least 7,000 more Chinese in nearby villages were killed. It is only due to records from a Russian colonel sailing up the river and finding thousands of bodies that we know the official version, which was 5 years of silence followed by the statement that the Chinese all swam across the river, was a lie.Needless to say, nobody challenges that lie. But it highlights how Russia works: paranoia, slaughter, denial, blaming provocation, then death to those who seek the truth. Has anything changed?

Thanks but I'll rely on information from my russian wife, her family & friends still in Moscow and other other regions of both Russia & Ukraine ... previosuly a chief legal officer for a Russian Tier 1 Military manufacturer that has several manufacturng locations & who, even now, remains a tier 1 supplier to both Boeing and Airbus ... once again disproving more of the total BS put out by the MSM with regards sanctions.

As for what your interpretaiotn of Russian history shows ... the exact same can be put forward about any number of countries around the world including very clearly now the UK!!

If you want to understand Russia, 2 less biased sources of info are the excellent Empire podcasts with Anita Anand, William Dalrymple and various historians, and Colin Thurbron's recent book about travelling up the Amur river.History gives you a better chance of understanding things than contemporary thought, which is often biased and produced with an audience in mind.So even with an event such as the Maiden protests, you can find very credible sources to back whatever version you want to believe. It ends up being a rabbit hole. Oliver Stone has been reliably anti-western for 30 years. That's not to dismiss him, but he's as much a stooge as the BBC.History though shows that the only way to survive in Russia is to keep your head down, your mouth shut, and when you do speak, you praise the leader.

Can I suggest this video.......Ukraine on Fire.
Its a documentary by Oliver Stone.....and tracks the history up to the start of the Special Military Operation.

To rent, its £1.99....so, is going to break anyone.

It goes through Ukraine history from end of WW2....till start of war.....its a very good documentary from a well respected historian and documentary maker....this is the guy that did the seminal documentary series on Vietnam.

Morning all,

Apologies I’ve been absent on here for a few months. I’ve had to spin a few plates.

You may want to keep an eye on CNR which is moving up nicely. Hard to know if it’s based on fact or fiction but up 20% last night in Canada and up nearly 6% this morning in London.

Arguably cheap given the scale of the asset and the BOD have stated that there are several interested parties. But as we all know this should and does come with a huge DYOR / this is AIM it could all disappear in a puff of smoke / don’t bet the house warning!

Just thought it might be of interest to some on here…

It does actually relate to shares as understanding how the Ukraine war will end is important to share prices. There will be a bounce in share prices when the war ends but to understand when that will be you need to understand each side's motivation.

I am pointing out the war in Ukraine is NATO's fault you are extrapolating that to 'Putin apologist'. No one is saying Putin is a nice guy but I am pointing out our leaders are lying to us and are causing wars we are paying for but do not benefit from.

I don't believe in the MSM at all, as you'd know if you looked at the politics thread. But what I do believe is that Putin isn't a nice guy. Perhaps the west provoked him in Ukraine. And in Chechnya. And in Georgia. And those Dutch tourists who were shot down deserved it too. And all the journalists falling out of windows. And it's just provocation that has led to him becoming a multi billionaire. The UK has huge problems and Starmer is awful. But defending Russia? It is a terrible civilization based on violence and cruelty, where the only way to succeed is through corruption and nepotism. It always has been. Read your history. A good general rule is that in any fight you want to be on the side that has the most freedom of speech. The UK is going in the wrong direction but at least we allow dissent and don't throw people out of windows.

foetus, you do tend to trot out a lot of MSM BS with regards Putin and Russia.

Clearly no way everyone will agree on the subject but hopefully The Donald will be the President who actually makes a real effort to end this senseless war & in that quest we should all be supportive.

UK economy looks to be in real trouble, particularly following the budget decisions.
I fear we will see growing unemployment, no growth whatsoever and inflation far from under control - a very toxic and damaging combination on the nation.

LOL I pointed out facts Donald from the mouth of those that should know whats happening and said in unguarded moments. No interpretation.
I have spoken on the phone to one of the board members of PXC so I base my view on PXC on that conversation as well not on other peoples' view.
