14/11/2024 23:59 | Reflecting upon Germany's hapless energy policy: In 1995 nuclear power contributed almost 30% of total generation. All dependable base load and zero emission. Following shutdown of last 3 reactors, April 2023, nuclear contribution reduced to zero. Wasn't that an even greater stupidity than thinking EU values would progressively rub off on Russia with increasingly high levels of investment & trade, the piped gas included? Especially so, when one reflects how dependent Germany has been on coal for electricity generation; like even in 2015 it contributed 48% of elec. gen. And a lot came from lignite, nasty soft brown coal, far more pollutant than hard black stuff. Admittedly that 48% has been reduced down to a tad under 20% currently, the cessation of russo gas notwithstanding; 2038 deadline for total coal phaseout. Then again, if a few more nuclear plants had been built, post 1995, rather than shut down, nuclear could be providing Germany with nearly all the base load required, with renewables making up much of the fluctuating balance and gas [albeit imported LNG sourced] plants there on standby for those days when the wind is still, the sun don't shine and their neighbours lack grid surplus to export to them. Hardly rocket science - which, ironically, the Germans used to excel at. | 2sporrans
14/11/2024 22:10 | Am still refusing to have a 'Smart' Meter, despite being bombarded with letters, emails, phone calls and text messages from Eon. have oil, electric and log-burner to try and hedge my bets for as long as possible .. several locals have now bought their own generators | mattjos
14/11/2024 22:00 | Worse than I thought to be honest. The planned powercuts for 20% of the population is so far out there its crazy. Good news is this plan should fall apart just before the election. | pogue
14/11/2024 21:48 | excellent. thank you pogue. pretty much as we all instinctively know - the lunatic Milliband is probably a bigger threat to this nation than just about any other you can imagine. | mattjos
14/11/2024 17:26 | Sadly Captain, I think we are nearer to being back in… I hope I’m wrong but two tier is going to do a lot of stupid things | gutterhead
14/11/2024 16:57 | gutterhead The EU has a lot to answer for also. They conveniently turned a blind eye (yet again) to Germany's energy sourcing. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose. What's good for Germany and France, isn't good for the rest of us. Thank heavens we are almost out :) | captain james t kirk
14/11/2024 16:29 | Well, green energy aside, oil isn’t very exciting either at $72! It’s tough to make a buck at present. | digger18
14/11/2024 14:50 | For a 30 mins explanation of how Milliband's dash to green is not going to work and cost us £billions listen to this straight video dissecting the stated plans of the government. | pogue
14/11/2024 14:32 | Angela signed up to be dependent on Russia energy and opened the borders. She has a lot to answer for, wokeness and stupidity If you can put aside his rhetoric, Donald is right about many things. | gutterhead
14/11/2024 14:27 | yeah, there’s defo a pattern when it comes to Optiva and some of it’s larger clients jbe81. That said, it could be well north before they pull the trigger, IF they pull the trigger. I used to go for some optiva stuff, but I can’t think of one single (long term) success story out of there, not one. | bumpa33
14/11/2024 14:10 | Looks destined to fill the gap | jbravo2
14/11/2024 14:04 | I see i could probably buy at 95p now but am holding off for now. Hopefully there will be some sort of bounce back in metal prices after the sharp recent falls and the next bit of news here should be the confirmation of the TD wall raise.. all being well . Fingers crossed | jeanesy
14/11/2024 14:03 | That’s a concern, think some have only just appeared. They will need some funding , either debt, placing or off takes . But production about to start this quarter and resource expected to double. Been some heavy buying as well, consistent 100k and 250k. But thanks for the warning | jbe81
14/11/2024 13:38 | good luck with it jbe81, it’s got the usual clients of the aforementioned all pushing it on Twitter, so I won’t go there. Do they need money by any chance?! | bumpa33
14/11/2024 13:32 | Scholz seems to be on the way out, perhaps they'll make a better choice next time. | zangdook |
