01/12/2023 14:36 | Grangex is on the green bandwagon - "GRANGEX intends for the Dannemora mine to become the first carbon-free iron ore mine at start-up, and for the GRANGEX Apatite project in Grängesberg to become the first fossil-free producer of apatite." Not bad positioning, and ties in with processing of iron ore by hydrogen reduction (DRI). EU sourced and made steel is strategic, plus the green angle should attract investment. H2 Green Steel aim to have a full scale almost carbon free steel plant running by 2025 - in northern Sweden. Phosphorus (from apatite) is on the EU's critical mineral list - 90% was imported, a significant fraction from Russia. It is an essential part of fertiliser production. | noccer
01/12/2023 12:00 | Anglesey comment on rare earth in Sweden.."This is also supportive for our Grängesberg project (49.75% stake), which has the potential to contain rare earth elements in its tailings.Previously, revenue from Grängesberg was also generated from the sale of apatite concentrates (17-19% P) produced from the tailings stream and the product also contained elevated rare earth content. Some 98% of rare earths used in the EU in 2021 were imported from China. Over one million tonnes are reported to have now been found in Sweden's far north, and any progress finding regional sources of REE is an important way of reducing Europe's dependence on China." | kooba

01/12/2023 10:35 | On the other hand Grangex note in their plan for extracting apatite and rare earth minerals from the Jan-Matts tailings at Grangesberg that "The quantity of sand in the Jan-Matts tailings facility is limited and production based on material from this facility will be limited to five to six years. There are, however, further opportunities in the area, with other tailings facilities containing value minerals, making it possible to extend the life of the planned recycling operation substantially and at the same time increasing the possibility to produce minerals in high demand through recycling." Maybe a deal on Grangex access to the Grängesberg Iron tailings is a possibility. | noccer
