Sogoesit - thanks. If that's the case, then the delay indicates very good news coming!

homebrew:
The sequence, at Total Depth, is:
Log Open-hole
Analyse logs to identify best/cleanest sands
Run and cement a production liner or production casing
Log cased hole (cement bond log & depth tie-in to open hole logs)
Perforate liner/production casing across identified sands
Production test.

The open hole logs will determine whether to production test or not as hydrocarbon saturation, h/c moveability, porosity etc. will be indicated from these logs.

(All assuming sands are hydrocarbon bearing).

The well will probably be drilled in 2 or 3 sections, assuming no probs. Each section would be cased prior to drilling the next section with a smaller drillbit, to protect the wellbore

11_percent, thanks.

Isn't the production test done after installing a production liner as in the last well or is that only after they are certain it's going to be a producer and they can do some intial production testing with the rig?

Thinking aloud, assuming Calao success, would they be able to run a flow/production test and spud Pavo real at the same?

Would there be enough space on the pad to do this?
Would they wait to see all results from Calao anyway before starting Pavo real?

==========

No, they need the rig to run the well logging tools down the well.

Ceteris paribus blindingly obvious the market for oil 2Q is going to tighten more than expected. Demand robustness seems to have confounded analysts, but then demand for oil is much like water, the more developed the nations of the world are, the more its needed. Not just combustion but all manner of petrochemicals.

Given what was discovered at Indico which was some way above expectations, this drill is ALL upside. Let’s all get a grip. We either have flipping big LS3 structural highs to exploit or an open fairway/18 hole golf course on which to ‘play’.

Only we want to play into the sand/bunkers! ;)

Surely ONGC as operator call the shots as far as when and how much news is released. This well might be transformational for Amer but not so for ONGC. The news will come good or bad when its released from India, just have to be relaxed.

Above comments on more land acquisitions might be true. However, do you think that the land sellers will sell their land before they know exactly what's underneath? Like us, they will wait for the results before concluding any sale.

The delay in news might more be related to some delays in operations - bad weather, normal drilling breakdown etc. What is more disappointing at this stage is why AMER did not update us in the middle of operations. Had they gave us an update at the end of February/beginning of March, we would have updated our expectations accordingly.

Now, there is too much speculation going around. I think that unless there is some consistent buying and some price appreciation soon, I doubt that news is imminent!

Well, the bid is the highest it has been for a month or so. Things are clearly coming to a head.

Talk of them delaying release Calao results is folly.Very encouraging bid-offer action

Also in terms of Cal-1 there would be no need to delay any update on it being a duster. It's hardly a game changer for ONGC when you see the other operations they have. They were in no rush to update the market on Ind -1 until their hand was forced. I think they wanted to fully evaluate their findings first.

Because they have a duty as directors to update the market with material news?

(I appreciate comment you're making though)

Why would any operator want to get news out early if its trying to negotiate more land to attach to CPO-5

Why is the assumption that no/slow news is good news? My experience has been the opposite for most shares! I'm hoping delay is down to ONGC as operator controlling newsflow or well being a major success rather than something negative but I'm not counting any chickens...
