The thing I like about average 8-9% dividend yields across a range of stocks is that I can put the proceeds back into whatever I feel looks undervalued at the time. |
entirely understand MC1 my divvies from all these have been going in to buying other stocks for quite some time, decided i would do the same with the capital deffo no new money or scrips going into LGEN or VOD though |
sigmund, I guess the benefit of share price growth compared to dividend payments varies depending upon your age.
I'm 67 and looking for dividends as each one that is paid adds to the cash pot for the seasonal drawdown.
Once that div. is in my SIPP (or bank account if trading stocks) it cannot be taken away by the company, the market or even the government.
The share price growth only provides you with a real benefit when you sell some or all the holding and until that time there's a risk you will suffer a loss.
I was happy with that risk when I was in my 30/40's paying into my pension. Less so now.
But well done with your Pru investment - assuming you've sold some/all of the holding ;-) |
sorry to here of your troubles SF... ABDN going great guns for me. |
You are not alone ! |
I hold all 5 of those so don't need to worry about which to choose ... |
This is still my top pick for a buyout in 2025. Outflows massively reduced, AUMA on the rise due to II.Have topped up recently and await good news. DYOR CQ |
Monty. I think the Interactive Investor element is probably worth nearer to what they overpaid for it (£1.5b) but yes, providing ABDN can actually demonstrate to the Market that it can get a grip on costs and nail the outflows (which they have made a good start at) then we could very well be cursing the fact we didn't accumulate more at this price range.spud |
I think very good value, ii must be worth 2 billion, stake in Phoniex whats that 550m.Market cap 2.8 billion, Abrdn look cheap to me. |
Just an observation, other companies/timescales are available. |
Of the five companies still shorting this, Black Rock is the biggest at just over 2%. Very surprised that they haven’t started exiting. |
agree good spot great cartoon obviously if we are wrong and i have bought more dog at wrong time, i have told the wife to shoot me |
Excellent call, jonny! Looking good here. |
It was 92% chance of BOE for me 100% now. Income seekers will go for high yielders Abdn and of course Phoenix looks great value, ii the jewel in the crown must be making good money. |
Well it is taking its own sweet time. |
all it says is ftse up, including permadogs like abdn |
Let's not digress TOO far from the subject of ABDN please all.
Thanks |
![](https://images.advfn.com/static/default-user.png) if i can digress onto matters i am professionally acquainted with, to a relatively new regular poster on the bb, it strikes me that there is a collective negative groupthink going on about uk equities in general. which is not surprising given how poorly ftse has performed compared to us indices.
but trump is obviously totally psychopathically narcissistic. perhaps not quite civil war in 10 years in us, but certainly huge civil unrest. especially when he issues an edict allowing a president to serve more than 2 terms. it will come, believe it. i think he is a russian double agent. why else would he often refer to putin as "vladimir"? why else would he try to stage a revolution, which is how i saw the post 2020 election result?
i see trump 2.0 = peak us. money will need to flow to safety out of us, so yes gold, but some will come to any sane market like uk, even if it is run by incompetents. the £ is on a pathway to hell, but so are the $ & euro. i see loads of value all over ftse 350. there is always value in a trading company even if the currency it trades in is bust.
trump has primed the us for a fall, the trigger will be a black swan event that we all know is coming but everyone ignores. possible big one hitting san fran and exposing all the inherent weaknesses inside us, just after he has sent troops into panama and starting vietnam 2.0 |
I don't follow bonds or gilts all I concentrate on are the dividends and the return by virtue of same.
If dividends are maintained at present levels this is a no trainer but do pay attention to its fellow hoodlum phnx as even better yields on offer there just have to wait for investors to rediscover the bottle to enter the fray
Fear is driving this market at present time |
sigmund freud, we're going to see 9000 FTSE 100 this year. FTSE 100 still half the value of S&P 500 and our darling Reeves is doing a fine job lighting the growth fire pit. |
