09/7/2010 13:14 | Aura Energy Aura Energy ponders AIM float Article Date: Jul 09 2010 Aussie-quoted uranium play Aura Energy is debating whether to tap AIM after it produces formal resource estimates for projects in Sweden and Mauritania. Based in Perth, Western Australia, the company hopes to announce an initial resource of between 200 and 400 million lbs of uranium oxide at its Storsjon project in Sweden in a few months. Chaired by the experienced Brett Fraser, Aura has an ultimate target of one billion lbs at Storsjon, whose shale deposits show a relatively low grade of 170 parts of uranium per million parts of rocks, but also host other minerals, such as molybdenum, vanadium and nickel to enhance their value. In West Africa, the company has 50 per cent of projects in Mauritania, notably Reguibat, which is smaller but significantly higher-grade than Storsjon. AIM-quoted GCM, a Bangladesh-focused coal concern with a 9.5 per cent stake in Aura, is also the company's partner in Mauritania, where Foster says he hopes for a formal resource estimate in the first quarter of next year. He suggests this could be in the region of 50 million lbs. Work on the project has so far produced grades of 330 parts per million with 800 parts per million shown along one metre. Fraser suggests the project could yield 'sensational' grades. At present, likely extraction costs are put at or slightly above current spot uranium prices of $41.75 a lb. But Fraser points out most uranium is sold on contracts at higher prices than the spot market and cites projections of a developing world shortage over the coming three years, as demand from a fast-growing nuclear power industry overtakes present uranium supply. Aura, whose shares trade Down Under at the equivalent of 8p, has spent £8 million to date developing its projects and is contemplating raising between £2.5 million and £5 milion once the new resource estimates are published. That is why Fraser and his fellow directors are toying with a move to AIM | robson1974 | |
