This company could be sold for £10 a share a year or two back, the shareholders have been shafted bigtime

in my opinion no uk bank would be interested just because of the facts, the mortgage cycle is at it's peak. hoping for the best anyway.

Surely the shareholders won't be very pleased with an offer of 560 or so if much larger offers have been refused before?

If other financial players perceive that this deal undervalues Abbey, it makes no difference that the bid has been recommended by the Abbey Board.

Its far from a done deal at this stage.

LONDON (AFX) - Abbey National PLC confirmed it has reached a deal on a
recommended offer in a mix of cash and shares from Banco Santander Central
Hispano SA.
A brief statement from the UK bank added only that a full announcement of
the terms of the offer will be made later today.
