15/3/2024 09:37 | The Competition and Markets Authority has opened an investigation into the £2.5bn acquisition of Redrow by rival Barratt. The deal was announced last month to create a mega house builder turning over £7.45bn and delivering over 22,600 homes a year, based on past performance. CMA watchdogs are investigating if the move “may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.” It added: “The CMA is issuing this preliminary ‘invitation to comment’ to allow interested parties to submit to the CMA any initial views on the impact that the transaction could have on competition in the UK. This invitation to comment is the first part of the CMA’s information-gatherin Subcontractors and suppliers with any observations on the merger can email the CMA by April 2 here Barratt.Redrow@cma.g | vatteton

14/2/2024 08:00 | narutodono, I don't see the deal itself adding particular upside to the share price and I think it was right to sell off on the news. The trading statement wasn't great either, but I'm seeing a reasonable range for the share price to be between 450-600p over the next 6 months or so and hence buying near bottom of this range | lafiamma

13/2/2024 15:32 | I'm guessing buying back in now, you see an upside to this deal/price. I think the government will introduce a new Help to Buy scheme prior to the election. | narutodono

08/2/2024 09:23 | Around 800 jobs could be lost following Barratt’s £2.54bn deal to buy rival house builder Redrow. Detailed bid documents show the merged business will see a reduction in total employees of around 10%. Barratt currently employs 6,000 people and Redrow 2,300. The firms said: “This reduction is intended to come from employees and management, overlapping central and support functions and divisions affected by the rationalisation programme as a result of the combination. “Following completion, Barratt intends to retain the best talent of Barratt and Redrow.” It is understood that job cuts will not affect site based staff. A review of both firms’ office network will also be undertaken with around nine set to close. Barratt currently has 29 divisional offices and Redrow has 12 offices across the country. | vatteton

07/2/2024 14:54 | I will look to invest more later this year. I understand the situation in HB has been difficult in last 6 months, as we have seen across the board and hence the strong divi cut, but the bold step to take over Redrow could be a future big win. Needs for housing will not abat and I am also convinced there will be future government support, maybe linked to the next general election manifesto GLA | tornado12

07/2/2024 14:25 | Well guys, personally i believe this to be a good move by BDEV, in the current climate. The cut in the divi has done the damage today rather than the takeover itself in my view. | vatteton
07/2/2024 13:41 | I think you can hardly blame BDEV for what they did in 2007. Most people had no idea of the harmonics of sub-prime failure in the US market. | louis brandeis
07/2/2024 13:19 | I remember BDEV taking over David Wilson Homes in 2007 ; calamitous timing for BDEV, felicitous for David Wilson. Await to see whether BDEV’s knack for mistiming the market endures | zutalors
07/2/2024 11:59 | That will be the end of Barratt, looks like the end of the cycle suicide bid that Taylor Woodrow did in 2007, sank them them and they never really recovered. | porsche1945
