Maybe with the buy-back announced today the market will start looking at the business again rather than at Mr Ashley.

The last 12 month's share price nose-dive has made it look like the company was in deep financial trouble (which it never was) .

Businesses that are in deep financial trouble do not buy back their own shares - (they simply cannot afford to do so)

ATB holders, will admit didn't think they would do the buy-back.DD

very well called tradesmarter.

250-255 was indeed the perfect buy in price.

I had topped up at 270ish. a bit too early, but hopefully now should look a decent buy.

Great news today - and further buyback planned.

Oh and does one other thing. .

This is (at last) a bone thrown to the beleaguered shareholder.

Re buy-back.

Buying when stock is cheap massively logical thing to do.

Underwrites cash rich nature of the Sports Direct business.

Only quible i have here is - shares to be held in treasury

I want to see those shares cancelled immediately

Otherwise it is a totally pointless excercise

I don't mind sharebuybacks when they are justified

ie: a trully undervalued business as is the case here

I'd rather have had a special dividend, share buybacks rarely work.

Agree with a lot of what you say Disco . . . But the negatives are surely in the price/valuation.

SPD has yet to benefit from the revenues coming out of recent acquisitions (esp revenues from 52 Heatons stores in Ireland yet to see full recognition in bottom/top lines). Heatons has had useful Brexit boost is also useful Euro (not ££) income stream

As for L4L's - All retailers are going to be up against it with flat/declining L4L's. See Next, Dixons, Marks and spencers etc etc all going down currently ... L4L's are going to be challenged everywhere. . We are going into a recession.

SPD is probably the best placed retailer on the planet to survive/thrive in a recession.

undervaluedassetsYes revenue was at a record but look at the LFL year on year, they have fallen off a cliff, only +2.5% this year, +4.7% 2015, +23.8% 2014, +21% 2013.You say :- "all that matters to the impoverished British consumer at the end of the day is value", yet the corresponding revenue growth for say JD may tell a different story in terms of their revenue growth:- +20% this year, +25% 2015, +6% 2014, +18% 2013.Are those looking for value merely going elsewhere (Amazon) combined with those seeking better quality also going elsewhere (Premium Lifestyle revenue double digit decline - doesn't fit with stack em high sell em cheap).Wouldn't disagree though that SPD prosper (did) during recessions, but the accounts tell me that their rate of revenue growth and earnings are declining, costs and debt are increasing and the short-term outlook doesn't look too bright. Revenue is vanity and profit is sanity.More recently it also tells me that MA whilst being a retail genius the rest of the BoD aren't exactly deserving of the same accolade - how the f£&k could they not have any hedging in place!.DD
