11/6/2019 10:16 | That may well be a scenario but it is not what they are saying in that article. To quote: "A “full scale bear market” in the S&P 500 Index, sending it 20% down from its April peak, to 2,350....." "The good news is that the landscape “may be transitioning” to a different scenario, with no trade deal forthcoming with China, but the Fed providing 75 basis points worth of rate cuts. That would see new highs on the S&P 500..." "A third scenario has a trade deal at the Group of 20 summit at the end of this month in Japan, where Trump may meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Equities would surge...." So they have just painted three different scenarios providing different outcomes. Investing is about being ahead of the game rather than explaining what happened. | jc2706

10/6/2019 15:49 | I think that those days have passed. It would be a quite astonishing political turnaround for that to happen. You could always go the Tally money route of course! | jc2706
10/6/2019 14:19 | What about GOLD as currency? | 338
10/6/2019 14:12 | The risks of the US Dollar losing its primary reserve currency status are very real and the US should fight tooth and nail to keep it as it is a significant reason for their relative wealth. It will, however, inevitably lose this status and US policy will shift closer to the 'managed decline' policy of the UK that was prevalent for much of the 20th century. The more interesting thing will be what comes after. A three way hegemony of the Yuan, Euro and USD? Or some more stable combination of commodities? Or (if we all want a laugh) Bitcoin? | jc2706

07/6/2019 09:05 | It is a worrying trend for Africa as the ultimate losers are the local populace as international investment is discouraged. There really does need to be a new paradigm for these projects that benefits all parties fairly. Otherwise we seem to be trapped in this endless distructive cycle. | jc2706
