Well done, I agree no way its normal trading especially with the low vol etc.
I see I have a chance of redeeming my weak position and regret selling in the 440's such is life ( and weak willed idiocy).
Have a good Xmas , REL traders.

Sit and watch this.. had to close part of my holding last week. Good chance of break-even with todays rise.

Pulling back its recent losses - is the manipulator on holiday or does it want the price back up?

Soemthing very strange with this order book - every time there is a trade it takes about 5 seconds to sort out the orders - it's as if a bot is working out where to place about 4-8 orders either side of the strip after each trade.

Total manipulation IMHO.

Seems to me there is one dominant buyer/seller in this stock at the moment. Last week they filled their boots by keeping the price down, they have now decided to force the price up then they will presumably offload. Just like to know at what price they are going to settle.

Our 500k order is back - but now it's on the buy side - there's a surprise!

1% L2 .6 vs .2

still at least we are up

funny order book, 100k buy order on 443.75, all buying coming in above that - could be stuck here for a long time.

with a drop of around 50ish pence since 3rd December, I am hoping that the drop rate will start to slow down and turn soon. Still hanging in to get a 3-6 month long, interesting though that FTSE doesnt seem to be impressed by Dow gain yesterday, REL currently down 2.75 pence.

Good Luck
Dawn.

Lots of action on the order book, L2 indicates further rise.

Big trades after the bell, second highest daily volume this year - let's hope this is the end of the downward drift and we now move north.

We seem to be on the up, L2 1.1m vs .3m

450p sell order to be hit soon - not much above it.

keep an eye on the 100k sell order on 450p as the price creeps towards it.

so the 'sell order' is only a tactic of the hidden buyer eh? interesting.

Either way I've had to let half my short call go at 442-3p, I can't afford this to fall further as I am geared.
Will ride out with the remaining half.
If we do fall to close on 420 levels, I'll creats some new position.

I believe its price is being kept down by a buyer - each day a large sell order appears just above the strip to keep the price down. On the odd occasion when it gets near the strip it is removed immediately. Once the buyer has filled their boots we may go up again and with a bit of luck they may employ the same tactic on the way up. All IMHO.

edit

sell order is back - placed at 10.04 on 450p

Cant see the bottom on this one, really has tumbled in the last few days. Not much above March lows, but would not think that co is in that bad a shape, will continue to watch and try get a 3 to 6 month long on this one.

Good Luck

Thanks hectorp, interesting the way the Yahoo news page has advised the times article

Sunday Times
The Sharewatch Column:
*While concerns about market change might persist, Reed Elsevier (LSE: REL.L - news) will not recover their former momentum.

Leatherey, good post, REL are already 'there' not being shoved out by 'free internet competition'. Publcations overheads much lower on the web.

I think they have given up trying to keep the price down - large sell orders have gone - what a surprise.

Large sell order just removed as the strip got closer - anyone would think they didn't want to sell the shares! What a scam.

It has now been doubled and put back in a bit higher up. Bunch of crooks.

Two large sell orders being swapped in and out of the order book - but its not manipulation!!

Aricle in todays Sunday Times. Starts off about recent share price slide and reasons for it e.g. US economy gains offset by currency fall, reduced academic institutional orders on scientific etc titles as buyers look for cheaper online alternatives. The ironic ending to the article was that it confirmed that REL is also a leading online periodical supplier.

Incomes might be reducing into the left hand, but if buyers are transferring to online as suggested, REL will just get increasing incomes into the other hand. Even so, I think that this could also be to RELs benefit as (please note Im no expert in this area) online operations are always cheaper than traditional publishing methods (let the buyer print it off and pay for the ink/paper etc).

Im sure you can do the maths...hang in there she'll bounce back.

(This IMHO and I hold shares in REL)
