I've seen your post SMCNI1968, however since I'm no longer a paying subscriber to ADVFN I don't think I can use the thumbs up feature.

Quiet boards on ADVFN normally are a positive since shares are not high profile and bought up through speculators and some amateurs. With regard to RELX, I think it is too big a market cap to generally be affected by bulletin board messages anyway.

Overall I think this is a quality business, beaten down by the affects of Covid-19 with the market over pricing down the affect of covid on exhibitions (considering it's relative % contribution to group results).

I think once we are in 2021 and exhibitions are in person up and running again I anticipate a re-rating of this share. Over the last few months and for the next few months I continue to build my holding in RELX.

Very quiet board- if you see this post could you give it a thumbs up or down just to see if anyone even looks?

Why is this sinking when Informa which is much more reliant on exhibitions is fairly stable?

Thanks pvb. Results not that bad under the circumstances, obviously the exhibitions business was gonna be awful, not quite sure why that seemed to be a shock.

2020 Interim Results

Results badly effected by COVID-19, via "Exhibitions" business, but Interim dividend maintained at 13.6p

I have created this new RELX (LSE:REL) thread because every time I try to look at any of the existing threads on this company it is just a confusing mess!

Thanks both. I guess I am biased also because I dont like gearing of 200% or buybacks financed by debt, even though appears to be a Company with long history of expansion as you say. Agree your sentiments, long may it remain British controlled and independent.

There is a reason it is highly rated, it delivers steady growth year in year out. Will continue to hold

I'm afraid I take the market's present view but having held since 1990 I suppose I am slightly biased. At various times it has often looked too highly rated only to continue to impress. I bought a number of different holdings at that particular moment and Reed International is one of the very few that have remained independent. Long may it remain so.

Also I dont like Companies that buy back so many shares to prop up their share prices. Wasting £250 million which should either reduce debt (preferable) or be distributed to shareholders.

Looks too fully valued to me, for a heavily indebted Company. Margins have been declining. Maybe I am being pessimistic, but I find its business model unconvincing. One upset to the good news may see a big pullback.

Could this be the Napster moment for Elsevier - Major article in theSunday Times today.
The upstart is which allows free puplication and free access to research publications
"Academia.edu is a platform for academics to share research papers. The company's mission is to accelerate the world's research.

Academics use Academia.edu to share their research, monitor deep analytics around the impact of their research, and track the research of academics they follow. Over 74 million academics have signed up to Academia.edu, adding 22 million papers. Academia.edu attracts over 46 million unique visitors a month.
Read press coverage about Academia."

imo a most useful site - Still exploring - Any views would be aprcciated.

Essential. I was wondering the same thing - I have some ITs with RELX shares. They like to describe themselves as "information and analytics company", in reality I think they are a publishing and exhibition company with a lot of (acquired) software for automating things like legal documentation etc. Rather too much debt in my humble opinion to be lashing out on buy backs.
