Thanks both. I guess I am biased also because I dont like gearing of 200% or buybacks financed by debt, even though appears to be a Company with long history of expansion as you say. Agree your sentiments, long may it remain British controlled and independent.

There is a reason it is highly rated, it delivers steady growth year in year out. Will continue to hold

I'm afraid I take the market's present view but having held since 1990 I suppose I am slightly biased. At various times it has often looked too highly rated only to continue to impress. I bought a number of different holdings at that particular moment and Reed International is one of the very few that have remained independent. Long may it remain so.

Also I dont like Companies that buy back so many shares to prop up their share prices. Wasting £250 million which should either reduce debt (preferable) or be distributed to shareholders.

Looks too fully valued to me, for a heavily indebted Company. Margins have been declining. Maybe I am being pessimistic, but I find its business model unconvincing. One upset to the good news may see a big pullback.

Could this be the Napster moment for Elsevier - Major article in theSunday Times today. The upstart is https://www.academia.edu/ which allows free puplication and free access to research publications "Academia.edu is a platform for academics to share research papers. The company's mission is to accelerate the world's research. Academics use Academia.edu to share their research, monitor deep analytics around the impact of their research, and track the research of academics they follow. Over 74 million academics have signed up to Academia.edu, adding 22 million papers. Academia.edu attracts over 46 million unique visitors a month. Read press coverage about Academia." imo a most useful site - Still exploring - Any views would be aprcciated.

Essential. I was wondering the same thing - I have some ITs with RELX shares. They like to describe themselves as "information and analytics company", in reality I think they are a publishing and exhibition company with a lot of (acquired) software for automating things like legal documentation etc. Rather too much debt in my humble opinion to be lashing out on buy backs.

Can anyone explain what it is this company actually does. Was farmilar with Reed Elsevier back in the days. Huge amount of acquisitions is what strikes me.

Pound's recovery against the dollar a contributory factor.

It has just gone ex-D, that would make a slight difference. Am still holding.

Thank you very much, jkc147. I need to look into this when I've more time, but sounds very plausible.

European research funders seeking to introduce open access system, article published early sept, coincides with drop in share price. Threat might be seen to RELX's business model?

Anyone still holding and know of a reason for the fall? Is it down to the high debt level and anticipation of higher interest rates or something more specific?

Looking good, broken up and 1500 now providing support.

A break up through 1500 could restart the uptrend.

Andyj, maybe, but am suspicious of companies that continually buy back shares though. Smacks of using Company funds, mostly borrowed money as in this case, to boost Directors' share option prices and to keep the city sweet. I would rather they paid down the high debt. This has put a warning flag on this Company for me. We shall see from the next results if the management's huge faith in the Company is justified.

Cant see any reason for share weakness except out of favour. Can hardly be described as an over-valued dividend stock.

topvest - ref. miserly growth (as you were commenting on last year) have had a quick look at the last annual report and seems to me growth of revenue has picked up. Still is not stellar but going in the right direction. Going ex/div shortly. Have dipped my toe in, that's often the kiss of death but we shall see haha.
