just love the cut and thrust of postings on this board, there is so much negative i dont understand why the posters dont sell and move on. my research on this business and I have now invested a reasonable sum of money is that for years it has been losing serious money, it sold the profitable bit in dubia which it bought when it sold the profitable adams business and collected a pile of cash leaving the business loss making, a new team have come in and kicked out a load of wasters, they quietly got about the business reduced losses substantially to the half year, i cant see that they could possibly turn in a profit for last year with the losses at the half year, but it will be interesting to see the second half. we have had no news for ages and then a whole raft of news almost every week, to me this gives the signs of positive management and a company going places, feel sorry for all you chaps with a bad history for their investment in this company, but to me this has ppotential and signs of classic recovery and I am looking forward to making serious money.

They are clearly setting out their (new) stall. I can understand Wilks frustration at lack of figures but don't share it. Three significant announcements as well as a name change in a fortnight shows a definite plan taking shape and whenever results are (last year it was end of March with notification of impending results a fortnight previous) we can expect a forward looking statement to put meat on the bones. If we don't get more substantive details then I would join Wilks on his side of the fence.

well at least they have improved the information they gave from their first announcement. This time they have explained the application of the technology and the bit about manual methods being limited to 30 slides a day which is why automation is required. They have demonstrated a problem and their solution, but just need to go that extra mile in telling us the targets for sales and profits expected. Still I get the feeling that this is a build up to the release of the figures.

As for the name, the reason behind the name change is probably to hide the past of the company as this new name is no better than the old one. Sometimes that sort of rebranding (providing that costs are not ridiculous) can transform a company especially if it is accompanied by a new direction and new ideas.
Roll on the half year figures!

Buywell, if I appeared before the Dragons in the Den, I could blind them with as much science as I liked. However, if I couldn't project turnover and bottom line figures from the wonderproduct I was presenting they would simply send me packing back down the numerous flights of stairs, and rightly so.

Without financial projections, there is no reason that anyone would buy these shares. The only share movements will be sells from those frustrated at the lack of number talk.

Again, not even the slightest hint at what this may mean in terms of even sales figures, let alone anything that would filter down to the bottom line.

It seems that us poor shareholders just don't matter and that we are largely forgotten about. I hope that they aren't just going to feather their own nests with any positive impact on the finances from this deal by simply re-distributing any increased revenue into more attractive packages for staff and directors.

Does anyone on here work for or have any close contact with the directors of the company?

rp,

I agree, they are just trying to draw a line under the failures of the past management. Having said that, I am more hopeful that the company is turning things around and attracting new investors such as Jim Mellion who is no mug, and Mr Turnbull actually bought some shares.

Perhaps (warranty) and others including myself, may get our original investment back as we've been here since the old turnpyke days which was a few name changes ago.

So "Medical Solutions" is not wide ranging enough ??? and "Source BioScience" is ??
What utter rubbish. Give us, especially PI's, credit for a little intelligence, and tell us
(a) the real reason for name change
(b) the cost and cost/benefit analysis

I agree the problem with lots of companies like this , they have very highly qualified people on board that seem to get carried away with the Technology and not the Money M aking side of things at times ! With their "High Salaries" they are easily the Winners !

what I was trying to demostrate was that there is a demand for high margin application out there of the type I outlined in my post. If such demand exists, why are MLS not seeking a share of these very profitable areas rather than pursuing high volume loss making business.

The company seem more interested in the prestige of their state of the art labs and all the applications they can carry out than the whole reason they exist - Profits. However it will be interesting to see the results shortly, perhaps all these announcements are the prelude to the much improved figures? We can only hope!

Well over the years many other stocks similar make these super announcements which to most of us small investors "sound super" but there is never any indication of revenues !

chastity , regarding your recent post . If you would care to read back on this thread you will see, I have mentioned a few times " That it will be interesting to see how the cash in bank is holding up " In next results ! As far as your losses question ... I'm hoping MLS are in Profit this time round ! Like everyone else ?

Let's wait and see as always ! But in the meantime come on MLS give us a Results Date Please !

the laboratory services mls are offering are nothing to do with genetic testing for parenthood. they are complex techniques relating to dna and rna sequence productio for labs conducting rtpcr( reverse polymerase chain reaction) and pcr to identify potential genetic markers for disease etc. i cannot think of any link with the business / business model outlined in post 2413.

Having undertaken postgraduate studies in the past myself, I have studied with many that I just couldn't imagine having the savvy to exist in management in the real world. This company could be loaded with these 'research assistant' types to complement Dr. Weaver. We share exactly the same concerns scribble.

As per my post on 5th Feb, here again is another announcement by MLS in full technicolour detail without any bottom line details. It's time for MLS to wake up to the commercial world. I don't disagree that they have made progress in reorganising the Company from the shocking state it was left in by the previous management, and in hemorraging cash, but it's time to step up to the plate.

In this world there are two kinds of companies, those who provide services and those who sell other peoples services. The first kind run on wafer thin profits or losses (guess who) and the second kind make all the money without taking any of the risks of infrastructure costs and research etc. With all these very specialist services MLS is apparently offering, it should be generating tons of cash not operating on losses. If you have a monopoly on something or the barriers to entry into your business are high (this sector is capital hungry as we know) then you price your services accordingly, not work on high turnover with wafer thin margin.

After reading about their last offering, of the genetics testing, one very good application of this technology which I have recently seen and which is a growing market is DNA testing for geneological purposes. One website I was on charge £195 for a kit (cost is probably under £3,)which allows you to take a swab from your mouth and then send off sealed in a test tube to a lab where the DNA is analysed and they can tell you whether your paternal line was say celtic, viking etc in origin and various other statistical info. This is high margin business. However the company marketing this product is the second kind of company and no doubt will have some kind of service agreement with a sophisticated, state of the art laboratory which will only be too pleased to carry out all the testing and results for a fiver each, discounted of course for volume!

paula dicanio I see you have been with this company for ages, i am a new to this stock but building up a decent holding as I just cant understand why with all the cash etc this share is so low, i know pevious management knackered the business but i was told that this has all changed and it is one to invest in. jim mellon is certainly no mug so the signs are good. you mention in one of your posts that it could see 10/12p depending on the results you expect, so what is your expectations for losses and cash at year end ?

I agree with you wilkie, the company should tell us how much money it is going to make from each contract, the facts are that this does not happen, no company does that so stop getting on their backs, the company is informing the market what it is doing and i for one am very pleased to see that they are active in new markets and cutting edge technology and one thing is for sure this team are not doing it to lose money. this is just the sort of thing shareholders want to see a company going forward, now it is up to shareholders to reveiw the information provided and conclude as to whether it is postive or negative if the latter sell your shares if the former hold them or buy some more.

Thank you buywell. I'm sure all Dr Tom Weaver's fellow boffins will be most impressed with the progress his company is making. Personally, it makes no difference to me if he is offering both Human and Mouse ACCUArray aCGH as a
product and also provide the genotyping service that will include in-house
bioinformatic analysis; or shipping Kappa shell suits to Albania, I just want to know what the projected impact is on the numbers.

There's no indication in today's announcement of the likely financial impact of the distribution agreement with Empire Genomics. I do get the impression that there is an element of this being a company run by boffin's who have only a limited grasp of the commercial realities of growing a business for profit. I mean, it's great that the capabilities of the company has been recognised with the capture of this distruibution agreement, but you get the impression that they are almost embarassed to speculate about any positive impact this may have on the bottom line for fear that they may be seen as businessmen ahead of suppliers of a high quality service at the cutting edge of their field. You need to toughen up guys.
