Not sure it's anything new:

'This looks another opportune time to buy back into this value play. That's because Marwyn's share price is 25 per cent below my end-April NAV estimate of 295p despite the fact that NAV per share has risen by 12 per cent in the past three months, and there have been some potentially profitable new portfolio investments.'

Many thanks. Anything new mentioned, or just a re-hash of what we know?

'I guess sophisticated must mean ex-city, accountant, or IFA types?'

Yes, those that make a habit of losing other peoples' money rather than their own :)

bamboo - no problem, just switch your target to another in the tertiary territory of Private Equity - BP Marsh ("BPM"). They stand at a 30% NAV discount (even higher than MVI's discount) and both Fundamentals and Technical Analysis combine to suggest a good rise ahead:

Thanks for the replies.

I am definately not a sophisticated investor imo, although I do have considerable experience in managing my own investments. I guess sophisticated must mean ex-city, accountant, or IFA types?

It's unlikely I'll be going through the rigmarole of opening a new account just to trade MVI. It's a shame because the chart pattern does look primed. Good luck all. Cheers.

I've just complained to Barclays on the same point.
'Nanny knows best' mentality.

Frustratingly been prevented by Barclays Stockbrokers from topping up MVI today. No option to pass a test, just a blanket response that company policy was to not trade at all in MVI, though they would let us sell our current holding if we wanted, which was kind of them.

Bought our original holding through Barclays around 2 years ago, so something has clearly changed in that time.

TDW - update, can be held in an ISA just that they hadn't set it up across all my a/c's when I was previously interrogated.

Not being able to remember the term sophisticated investor ought to disqualify me any way!

Ho ho :)

Just put in an order through TDW and coming up with message that this can't be held in an ISA.

Hold in my general trading a/c.

Is this correct?

TDW - the same, have to go through a short Q&A session, psychological testing, assault course and full medical and only then are you able to buy.....

Specialist Fund Market. Aimed at sophisticated investors.

Its a specialist investment, or whatever the technical term is, so you need to have answered the "do you really know what you are doing" questions with your account provider. I had to do this with HL to buy more convertible stock I already owned so I think the rules tightened up in 2014.

Looked at the Triangle chart patterns here and thought the targets looked worthwhile and achievable, however Halifax share dealing say they no longer deal in the is share. Has anyone else bought these through Halifax?

I could try ordering on the phone, but expect there then might be similar difficulties selling. I guess others buying here are using different brokers. I mention this for info's sake, because it might have some effect on potential volume and liquidity. gla
