31/1/2017 11:35 | I have over the last year adopted a policy of buying 1 month or so before ex div dates and selling 2 couple of days before as I have noticed a trend of buying for the dividend. Until today I have 100% record and have beaten the dividend payments by more than 2X after dealing costs. I am still in the money with these as I bought at 480p but today has put a big dent in the profit and I am now unsure what to do. | prokartace
31/1/2017 09:23 | Indeed, it's happened with GSK now on several occasions, a couple of days post XD has been a decent time to add there recently. In any case, added a small amount of IGG, very small position as a tad volatile for me, too much excitement great for my BP readings ). | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 09:21 | .........and sometimes it drops less than the div, you never know. Bought yesterday, so apologies for the drop today!.DD | discodave4
31/1/2017 09:18 | Essential, that is correct and a risk as the share price sometimes falls more than the divi amount | prokartace
31/1/2017 09:17 | There's me worrying about missing out on a 2k dividend and it's dropped and cost me 3k today...couldn't make it up! No more funds to buy more so i'll just sit and wait for now. | langy_1
31/1/2017 09:14 | Dave, I'm very probably confusing matters here ) My understanding is you can buy before the close of business on a Wednesday and sell at the open on a Thursday- and still qualify for that dividend. All be it you face an XD adjustment in price. | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 09:12 | Effectively buying at 517p - good price. | nigelpm
31/1/2017 08:59 | EIFrom the interims they stated that record date is 3rd Feb, ex is normally 2 days before, so tomorrow.DD | discodave4
31/1/2017 08:58 | I've yet to find the perfect stock and have been doing this for almost 30 years!. | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 08:56 | It's a broker downgrade. It's gone to hold | staylow1
31/1/2017 08:52 | Perfect stock for me - I loving this volatility and presenting me with perfect opportunity to buy more | raffles the gentleman thug
31/1/2017 08:51 | Thursday XD, Friday record, think that applies to all LSE listed stocks. | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 08:50 | prokartace - I wrongly assumed ex-div today. It is a bit odd, lets see how it closes today | mister md
31/1/2017 08:45 | That is what I thought. IGG is not a widows and orphans stock, there is risk which everyone is hopefully aware of. | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 08:42 | I think its the market trying to second guess direction (as I'm attempting, selling a couple of weeks back and coming back in April). With the full response to FSA statements coming in a month or so there will be some uncertainty. I'm guessing, and I'm sure the traders today are too. Though also perhaps this MP inquiry into restricting bookies gambling terminals from £100>£ | dusseldorf
31/1/2017 08:40 | Thursday is the XD date for the LSE, not Tuesdays!. | essentialinvestor
31/1/2017 08:38 | No Mister, the share price drops WHEN the share goes ex, not before | prokartace
31/1/2017 08:34 | More to the point, why does the share price drop 4% on a sale, but didn't rise 4% following the 1.1m buy last week...got to love the market. | ddubzy
31/1/2017 08:33 | because the shareprice usually dips by the same amount, and sometimes more (like today) ? | mister md
31/1/2017 08:31 | Why would a director sell 2 days before the dividend? | prokartace
30/1/2017 19:45 | LangyFrom the interims:"The proposed interim dividend for FY2017 of 9.42p per share amounting to GBP34.6 million was approved by the Board on 24 January 2017 and has not been included as a liability at 30 November 2016. This dividend will be paid on 3 March 2017 to those members on the register at the close of business on 3 February 2017."Ex div 2 days before record date so Wednesday 1st, as per mnomis comments, can sell on the 2nd and still get divi.DD | discodave4
30/1/2017 17:07 | @ Langy_1 - you can sell on 2nd Feb and will still receive your dividends. All other things being equal, the price should adjust on 2nd Feb so that other than tax implications, it should not make too much difference, although dividend only payable early March. | mnomis
30/1/2017 16:01 | well its still rather cheap and growing like a weed, and I'll take best part of £100m of cash generation every six months on an enterprise value of only around £1.5bn all day long | raffles the gentleman thug
30/1/2017 15:43 | FFS wish I had taken some more, always easy after the event!. | essentialinvestor |
