Exactly. Finding AIM shares that are suitable for a long-term holding isn't that easy. An asset-backed cash generating business like Breedon is ideal. Digging stones out of a hole can't be done by a smartphone app!

you have to hold the stock for 2 years though for IHT and not many in AIM I would like to hold for that length - although I suppose you could when you want to sell just spreadbet it short and keep the holding for IHT

You don't have to pay inheritance tax on most AIM shares, so moving to the main market means your estate could pay 40% inheritance tax, depending on you circumstances. (I manage the investments of an elderly relative).

WHy is it such an issue if they list on the Main Market?

Would they not be considering it, only if it is a good idea?

I have a holding in ARBB, but I am not certain of its IHT exemption status, as its main asset is a holding in another company i.e. Secure Trust. I've emailed ARBB and am still waiting for a reply.

Why buy Secure Trust when you can buy ARBB? It owns 50% of STB and that stake is worth way more than its mkt cap so much cheaper way into STB imho

Difficult innit? AIM is inherently risky, but I regard Breedon as one of my less risky ones. Maybe Secure Trust, or Youngs for similar risk?

They have announced that they will move to main market when the Hope Construction deal is agreed with Competition Commission in May/June.
