If I was a company in this industry I certainly wouldn't be buying AVN for 150p, not even 50p. I'd wait until they go bust then buy the satellites / assets in a fire sale from the receiver.

Log. One last point. Long term value seekers are by definition not going to say anything as this is a short term bounce on an expected bid. Hence short term players come in and ride the upside. It's a simple momentum play I'm expecting this to just be a preliminary move before other parties come in and out bidding starts

This is a pretty lame argument though. As has been pointed out on this thread many of the folk suggesting there is value here have a history of promoting stocks to create a squeeze which they then sell into. I haven't seen many long term value seekers suggesting there is any value at all here.

Nothing wrong with trying to ride the wave up I suppose but I would be very careful as one RNS may well cause the price to collapse here.

Show me another example where a company has received a bid 5x the current market cap when its debt downgraded as junk and was 10x the market cap. Where the company had admitted that it was at a point where it needed an emergency equity raise and was in trouble and where its debt was trading well sub-par at the time.

Obviously, it isn't impossible but I can think of no example of this happening.

Longs need to take a step back here and think about why anyone would want this business by ascribing value to the equity. There is perhaps value in the equity IF you ignore all the debt but it simply can't be ignored. It is secured on all the assets and at $600m paying 10%+ it is certainly non-trivial.

That I'm afraid is really all there is to it.
