hxxp://tidalenergytoday.com/2016/10/07/first-turbine-foundation-for-meygen-touches-ground/#.V_dqB255IEM.twitter

The first turbine foundation for MeyGen Phase 1A project has been deployed in the Pentland Firth, off Caithness.

The foundation, weighing more than 1,000 tonnes, has been installed by GeoSea’s jack-up vessel MV Neptune early this morning, October 7, Atlantis informed on social media.

GeoSea worked alongside James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS), a specialist in dynamic positioning vessel operations in high tidal flow conditions.

In the meantime, the DP2 vessel Aker Wayfarer has arrived to Nigg Energy Facility to start the mobilisation of the turbines for the project.

The total of four 1.5MW turbines, three of which were built by Andritz Hydro Hammerfest, and one is the AR1500 Atlantis turbine, will be installed in the Phase 1A of the project.

As reported earlier, JFMS will install and connect three tidal turbines, and one will be installed by GeoSea.

The pessimist within me was telling me early this year that installation would begin around the Autumn equinox, which together with the "ides of March" always seems to me to be a stormy period. Sure enough, it has happened that way, so I'll be relieved when we get news that it is complete, and if they manage it without delays or serious snags it bodes well for the future and indicates that they have assembled a good team.
Regards.

If you follow the Neptune, it has already made at least 1 trip to the installation site which I assume means that installation is already well under way... hxxp://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:298199/mmsi:253532000/vessel:NEPTUNE

Looking at the twitter feed it appears that the installation proper may start this week.
The forecast looks okay although there is some rough weather for a day in the middle of the week

Hi stepone, thanks for the reply. Has the foundation been prepared already?

If so it guess it could be a fairly straight forward procedure, assuming the weather is favourable.

edit added 24/09/2016
I have answered my own question. The foundation is preprepared. Each turbine is anchored by six 200 ton ballast blocks. Looks like the process could be very straight forward.

'First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has formally unveiled a tidal turbine that is to be deployed in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth.

The device is the first of four to be completed at the Nigg Energy Park in the Highlands for Atlantis Resources's MeyGen project.

The project is said to be the world's first large-scale tidal energy farm.

The Scottish government has provided £23m of funding to help develop the tidal stream farm.

Atlantis hopes to eventually expand the project to up to 269 turbines, with completed turbines being transported north by sea from the Nigg Energy Park on the Cromarty Firth to the tidal stream farm site in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth, which separates the north Caithness coast and Orkney.'

Hi seball,

There's probably a presentation somewhere, can't find it easily, but AIUI, the phases are :
- 1A 6MW, likely producing by end 2016;
- 1B 6 MW, hopefully producing late 2017; and
- 1C 74 MW, target financial close late 2017.

This would seem to chime with your timeline, but - at 84MW - rather unhelpfully not with your (or the analyst's) 100 MW.....

Anybody got greater clarity ? I appreciate that with a project of this nature, some fudging to allow for slippage is merely 'good expectations management' !

By 2020, 61 turbines could be installed and producing enough power for about 42,000 homes. This will be just over 100MW. Good luck

For any new investors

140p price target
Following the Equitix & DWE contracts, Peel Hunt suggest material upside,

"... the new partners bring valuable supply chain, project development and access to finance, as well as the £2m cash. They enhance Atlantis' credibility with the UK and Scottish Governments, as well as other potential supply chain partners and financiers, and further cement its position as the leader in this emerging industry. Our TP moves to 140p, with upside beyond - If just the first 100MW of MeyGen's planned 400MW is built under the proposed CfD regime, it would alone be worth 260p to Atlantis per share we estimate."

Hi all,

Some indirect publicity for ARL's MeyGen facility in this news of Nova Innovation's successful commissioning of a (smaller - scale) tidal generation scheme in the Shetlands.
