"Sylvania has maintained annual production guidance despite Q324 results being affected by a 22-day strike, resulting in 10% lower production. The PGM basket price was stable during the quarter, with positive platinum momentum offset by palladium weakness and rhodium prices stable. Operating costs increased by 5.6%, in line with expectations. FY24 production guidance is for 75,000–76,000oz, despite the challenges in Q324. Our PGM outlook is unchanged from our moderated forecasts earlier in the year. We have cut our FY24 EPS forecast by 2.2% from 7.4p to 7.2p on the Q324 miss, but have lifted our FY25 and FY26 forecasts slightly on the back a share buyback programme reducing the number of shares in issue. The company announced a special dividend of 1p/share following the sale of its Grasvally Chrome Mine for US$6.2m. We have lifted our valuation slightly to 120.0p/share due to a slightly weaker sterling and lower number of shares in issue, but have made no change to the carrying value of the exploration assets."

Any chance an MBO or a takeover may happen here at these suppressed levels and an outlook of commodity prices likely to go up? Big cash pile too... I would've thought someone would want to capitalise on the value here?What am I missing, from any of the regulars here please?

[e-mail] Tom Price Research Analyst [phone] [e-mail] Yuen Low Research Analyst [phone] [e-mail] Sylvania are declaring a special 1p dividend after early settlement of the Grasvally loan ($6.2m), on top of the interim of 1p, and we expect a further 2p at the full year results. Guidance has been maintained at 74-75koz of 4E PGMs for FY24 despite a 22-day strike at the Western operations during the quarter resulting in production down 5% QoQ. We are leaving our forecast of 74.9koz unchanged and remain optimistic on PGM price outlook.

That's a surprise!

The Company received early settlement of the loan and sale price relating to the sale of Grasvally Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd amounting to an equivalent of $6.2 million.


The Board is very pleased to declare that a portion of the proceeds received will be distributed to shareholders as a special dividend in the amount of 1p per Ordinary Share, amounting to approximately $3.3 million, payable on 7 June 2024. Payment will be made to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 10 May 2024 and the ex-dividend date is 9 May 2024.
