19/5/2005 19:58 | Sounds like the holiday season is already underway. Some of us have to stay and watch the shop you know!! Dee Valley firming up nicely by the way. | ygor705
18/5/2005 17:55 | lundhousegreen Capri? I hope so! Looking forward to seeing Popeii and other Roman sites. I live about 14 miles from Silchester (Calleva), which is south-west of Reading. I go there two or three times a year. The town disappeared it is just fields now - but you can walk around the walls. They have survived all the way round the former town site. They are a bit lower than they were - just as Hadrian's Wall is - but are still fascinating. The amphitheatre has also been excavated. The opening scenes for the film 'Gladiator' were filmed near here in Weyborn Forest. I am really into the whole Roman thing. Reading University have been excavating Silchester every year for about twenty years now (See www.silchester.rdg.a z | zeppo
18/5/2005 14:56 | Have a great time, going on a trip to Capri? LHG | lundhousegreen
18/5/2005 12:02 | lundhousegreen Yes! I am away for the week that includes my birthday on the 26th. I hope to come back to some exciting post. I mis-understood Beowulf Mining's mine site presentation. (see the BEM thread) It was held as part of regular monthly mining industry meetings at a hotel in London. www.minesite.com have all the details. We stay b&b at Gatwick tomorrow night before flying to Sorrento on Friday. Back on 27th. Stanelco is performing brilliantly today. z | zeppo
17/5/2005 13:41 | Away for the BWG, YNGA results and Barc. trading update, and the JHD divi. all on the 26th May? | lundhousegreen
16/5/2005 19:24 | lhg and ygor I am away from 19th to 27th May. Hope to catch up with you when I return. I am sweating on BEM who have a presentation at their a site in Sweden tomorrow. Currently my holding is down as I bought in two parcels at 9.5p and 10p plus charges. I originally had a tiny holding at 7.5p. Stanelco is still firm for me. I believe that Red Hot Penny Shares have put a 50p target on it but still regard it as high risk. There is still an oustanding court case regarding their patent dispute with Bioprogress. z | zeppo
14/5/2005 19:58 | Young's results 26th May. Maybe news then. Guinness Peat, the major institutional shareholder with 23.3% of the 'A' shares, have been pushing the board for such a re-organisation. The next major institution is The Exploration company with 6.36% of the 'A' shares, which have Halsteads (AIM) in their portfolio . Hope the rest of the investors stay. I have noticed a few "R" trades, which I assume are shares being taken out of ISA's, and being put into certified / nominee accounts. Here's hoping the share price does continue it's upward trend. 14/5/2005 15:53 | LHG Not so sure about the move to AIM being wholly positive for the share price as there are some institutions that cannot hold AIM stocks. Pipex went into reverse when they did a similar thing about a year ago. At these levels would also be a bit nervous about Youngs unless something happens on the Ram Brewery front......especiall | ygor705
10/5/2005 19:45 | Z. Bought some more BWG and HDYS Monday. Watching BEM and SEO closely. TRT had a good day also on Tues. Trk annual results out Monday, don't think there will be much more on the surface than is already known, but with this one, with confidentiality agreement, you have to read between the lines very closely. The move by Young's onto AIM seems a good one. It hasn't done JHD any harm, or PEEL, to name but two! LHG | lundhousegreen
10/5/2005 13:25 | Good day for Youngs, Dee Valley,TRK and Stanelco. Slow start for Beowulf on AIM. Their BEM thread suggests that they have a presentation on the 17th May. I have added some Stanelco today hoping that when actual contracts are announced, not just trial results it will move up to the 30p level. The company secretery has stated that the Interims will be out at end of June. Date not yet certain. z | zeppo
07/5/2005 14:57 | lundhousegreen Thank you for the information. Fridays Independent carried an article about Youngs with similar information. z | zeppo
07/5/2005 06:32 | An additional article in The Telegraph on the same subject as above. LHG -------------------- Young family loses veto in share overhaul By Caroline Muspratt (Filed: 06/05/2005) John Young, chairman of brewer Young & Co, and his family will lose their power of veto after the company said it would simplify its share structure and move to the Alternative Investment Market. The company, whose deputy chairman is Mr Young's son James, will overhaul the existing structure which includes three types of shares, A, B and non-voting shares. Peter Whitehead, finance director, said: "It's an 'everyone wins' situation." The B shares are controlled by members of the Young family, either individually or through their role as trustees to different family and employee trusts. Currently, resolutions must be approved by the B shareholders before they can be put to the ordinary A shareholders. The B shares are also not subject to inheritance tax. Moving to Aim will enable all shareholders to take advantage of the same tax benefits, Mr Whitehead said. By converting the B shares to A shares - on a one for one basis - the family will have a market to sell shares. However, a spokesman said the move was not driven by the intention of any of the family to sell stock in the immediate future. The move also appeases Young's largest non-family shareholder, Guinness Peat, which has pushed for change - including alterations to the share structure - for several years. Blake Nixon, UK executive director of Guinness Peat, said he was "pleased" by the planned changes, which were a "huge step forwards". The B shares account for 57pc of the total stock, so the family members will remain Young's largest shareholders. They also own some A shares. But Mr Nixon said: "Over time, the 57pc will come down when a family member wants to fix the roof or something." Guinness Peat owns around 10pc of the total stock. Mr Whitehead said the move was "a testament to the success of Aim". Young's also has non-voting shares that were granted as a way of avoiding tax on dividends, which has been high in the past. These shares, which are also listed, will remain. The A shares rose 17½ to £17.05. | lundhousegreen
07/5/2005 06:26 | This article in Friday's Daily Telegraph.LHG -------------------- Young's serves up an extra special round. Young & Co's Brewery is one of those stock market curiosities, a small family company whose most important function sometimes seems to be providing a little light entertainment amid the grey conformity of most quoted businesses. For decades now, property developers have gawped at Young's piece of fine real estate as they crawled round Wandsworth's infamous gyratory system, salivating not at the prospect of the company's fine ales, but at what they could do with the site of the brewery. Their wishes took a small step closer to coming true yesterday,(Thurs) as Young's revealed plans to simplify its capital structure. The A and B shares are being merged into a single class, and both will be listed on the unlisted stock market, so to speak. The family control of the votes is unchanged, but the B shares will go onto Aim, and the A shares will step down from a full listing to join them. If this sounds like mumbo-jumbo, it's the company's way of creating a market in the B shares without jeopardising their tax breaks, since shares on Aim are deemed to be unlisted, and can escape the ravages of inheritance tax. Holders of the B shares could now sell easily if they chose to, and while nobody admits to any plans, as more ownership drifts into the hands of those who have nothing to do with the business, so the offers are likely to start coming in. After all, it's not every day that a big development on the banks of London's newest trout stream becomes available. | lundhousegreen
05/5/2005 19:28 | Thanks Zeppo. Had a look at the website, and will have a look at the price Monday. Might add to BWG in the Summer. LHG | lundhousegreen
05/5/2005 17:32 | Good day for the ordinaries. I hope my non-voting will catch up soon z | zeppo
05/5/2005 09:21 | lundehousegreen Well done on the BWG. I bought some at a relatively high price on the day I sold out of ESH. I am still positive on Beowulf Mining. It goes on AIM on 9th May. New Epic will be BEM. I believe that there will be drilling reports published in the next few weeks. They are waiting to get reports on ten core drillings and will announce when they are all in. z | zeppo
05/5/2005 07:26 | Young's move to AIM. | lundhousegreen
04/5/2005 16:11 | Zeppo Bought some BWG thru' our broker's "one off deals". LHG | lundhousegreen
04/5/2005 16:10 | All quiet on the Western Front. I am away on the 26th when the finals come out. Get back about three days later. Hope for a pleasant surprise on this one. Still believe in SEO. Holding what I have. z | zeppo
23/4/2005 08:34 | Will have a look at Stanelco | ygor705
22/4/2005 20:17 | Enjoyed seeing the rises in Youngs and United Utilities today. This morning I attended the Stanelco AGM. There is still tremendous upside for this company. I believe their emphasis on R&D is going to lead to huge, huge growth. Interims due out in June. Have a good weekend! z | zeppo

22/4/2005 16:27 | Another great day for Young's. Voting shares up 75p and non voters up 50p to close at new all time highs. | lundhousegreen
