This from the Daily Mail website....

"It's cheers all round down the pub these days where the price of a pint is nudging £3 and the fight to get to the bar becomes increasingly difficult. In fact, things are looking up generally for your local's landlord, who appears to be holding up well to the prospect of longer opening hours and a further rise in the minimum wage.

Broker Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein is upbeat about medium-term prospects for the chains. It has pointed out to clients that capital spending is falling and free-cashflow yields of 8% to 11% could be used for acquisitions. That would certainly put a nice head on shares of the smaller pubcos."

Bet you are glad you sold LSE when you did , after the announcement by the OFT that a takeover of the London Stock Exchange with either Deutsche Borse AG or
Euronext N.V. has been referred to the Competition Commission for further
review. Hope the JHD results OK Wed.

Edit. Another great set of results from JHD.

Thank you for the information.

That is an interesting time for me as Fortune Oil full year results (28th April last year) are also expected about then. I am aware that unless China can adopt ebergy efficiency in an unprecedented way that the planet may well be screwed - but I cannot see the sale of my relatively tiny holding making them go green. I used to attend FTO AGMs back in the 90s and may raise the issue of CO2 emmissions etc at the next AGM.

Good day for my seo!

Thank you for the further info.

I rang the brokers about Brakespeare after seeing the estate agents boards in Henley around the brewery site.

I still have not bought any yet.

If things go well this week for me again on SEO and FTO, which has been flat for a month, then I may have some breathing space.

Their tip on Diagio coming good. Again though I could not afford to get in.

Shepherd Neame (Code SNA) also one of our broker's favourites, traded on OFEX.

Thank you again!

SEO looking good today but still a lot of garbage on the thread.

I am looking at Brakespeare (OFEX like Thwaites) as a long term stock.

We live 23 miles from Henley where they have owned a lot of real estate around their brewery. The whole site is up for sale. I am not sure what stage the sale is at. Brakespeare are moving the brewing to another site that they already own.

You may be already into them. Our brokers appear positive: their clients hold over 300 thousand shares, I believe. The brokers say they Brakespeare may change the status of the pubs shortly - something to do with managed houses possibly.

In the FTSE quarterly review today, SEO moves from FTSE Fledgling to FTSE SmallCap effective 21st March.

Thank you for the posting

I tend to disregard most of this thread as the SEO thread has been largely hijacked by BPRG supporters. BPRG, as you may know, have won a patent dispute with SEO, with a possible appeal pending.

Pity I live 250ish miles from the Colne Asda.

SEO have to make an announcement on the deal with Asda within the next month.

Good move selling LSE ! It's always difficult to know when to sell, but looking at LSE it's about 100p less. Well done.
Young's steady, you can sleep easy at night with this share !

I have been off the internet for over a week as I changed to a different provider - ditching NTL , a company that I would not recommend.

Yes, saw the PHP article. Interesting but I think that they have had there little run.....................for now at least. An interesting technical position is developing in International Power (you will see my comments on the Board). Has been showing very good relative strength recently and things could get interesting if it finally does achieve FTSE 100 status. As usual though DYOR.

Yes, still positive about trk which I have held and added to for 6 years now. There appears to be a few shorting the share, as there has been no news as late, but from reading the boards,( e.g. ADVFN's TRK board, & most who write on that board are quite knowledgeable) there is a lot going on in the background with the gearbox manufacturers. A bankable deal is supposed to be "soon",( we were told by the F.D. that it might slip into 2005,) but until there is a deal, then the price drifts. It is expected that an off-road deal maybe first, with e.g. a tractor manufacturer, but for on road, BMW and Ford seem to be leading the way. It's a matter of patience now. It is an all or nothing share, but risks seem to be decreasing. DYOR.

Are you still positive about TRK? I notice it is up 1p against the market today.

Premier Health was an excellent tip. Unfortunately I was too committed elsewhere to get involved when you first mentioned it. It was given a boost in the Sunday press this weekend.

Daft as it may sound I am not fully au fait with Carclo.

I had noticed that they had a joint patent on medical capsules with Aquasol , a company that was taken over by Stanelco with Stanelco paper.

I had not noticed that Carclo was in the engineering section of Lowland Investment Trust. I attended Lowland's AGM in December and Carclo was one of the four companies that the fund manager said that he had high hopes for.

I bought in at 52p. They are now 68p bid price. A director added at 64p this week.

They are into Radio Frequency tagging, asthma sprays and many other specialised engineering products.

(Tea's ready. Her indoors is shouting - must go)

Your move on Barclays sounds sensible. They usually weaken after they go xd but I still think that they are a hold on a medium term basis. Hardys continues to puzzle me but its moving in the right direction.

Carclo brings back memories.............it was the old Card Clothing Company as I recall. What are they up to these days?

Could do with Youngs saying something about RAM values...........it would put a bit more oomph under my Fullers holding!

There is a stock picking competition soon to start, sponsored by the LSE & Barclays.

Adds a bit more interest?

Sorry was in Brussels for the Barclays results..................which I thought were very good by the way. Don't see them coming to much harm in the medium term although they do tend to come off after the results season is over.

Have you seen what's been happening at Hardy and Hanson today. Looks like something is driving it to me.

If you want an interesting little share with potential to look at have a peep at Cozart......they make drug testing equipment for the police.
