Red - yes smallish bolt-on acquisitions where they are complementary and WYN have expertise is what we want.

whack

Acquisitions have been on the agenda for a while now. At least they appear to be making sensible decisions on price and not overpaying based on their model.
Hopefully bigger will be strobger going forwaed.

Thanks Dave but it's behind paywall. Interesting RNS today. Still on acquisition road but the mysterious larger one mentioned earlier (17 Aug) now abandoned.

does the early harvest mean that some of the grain trading profit has been brought forward to this financial year from the next?
also, this year's drought may not be repeated next year...

A good backdrop to upcoming events at WYN. I wonder if a rights issue is upcoming to pay for the likely acquisitions. If so, today's statement may encourage PIs to participate.

Yes it is better to pick up smaller private businesses that may wish to sell out that extend Wynnstays customer base rather than taking on a company like Carrs Billington which is its major competitor.Incidently one problem Wynnstay may have in trying to raise additional funds from its existing shareholder base is that it has an unusually large amount of its shares held by private investors basically its farmer customers. It was originally Wynnstay & Clwyd Farmers;a farmer owned coop founded over 100 years ago, later a farmer owned company before it listed on AIM to widen its shareholder base although from memory it raised very little cash on listing.I have been a shareholder for about 18 years.

A fair response from the CEO. Carr's Billington is a £50-100m deal so nothing to do with this week's fundraising. Probably too complex anyway - small bolt-on's are better!

I must say I hate Primary Bid as a method of fundraising from PI's. Paying on your debit card maybe OK for very modest investors but not if you want/need to invest more significant sums.

There are some sales dribbling out below £6 and the share price may soften further in the next several days, if some of those newly acquired shares are dropped for a quick turn.
It would gall me to pay 580-590p but that may be the only option.

Message back from the CEO to my email

Thank you for your email, and I am genuinely very sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction and recognise your frustration.

The decision as to how to raise new funds for the Company is always considered carefully and taken in consultation with our advisers, and with the best interests of all our shareholders in mind. Unfortunately for smaller quoted companies like us, raising moderate sums of this quantum, we have to be conscious of the cost-effectiveness and timescales of the process.

In this case, we used existing authorities granted by shareholders in March to proceed with the equity raise, and believe that the proceeds, once deployed should greatly enhance the business’s ongoing growth prospects, and benefit returns to all our shareholders.

I can assure you that the Board values the support of all shareholders, whether or not they are institutional fund managers or private investors, and that we continue to work hard to deliver the best results we can for our members.

I do hope you can continue to support us, and despite your frustrations, I do hope you can understand our dilemmas with these matters.

Fair play

At the AGM they did comment on plans to re-develop the Calne site and the numbers were quite big, from memory. Once completed the site would be a big footprint for the company. That would indeed chew up a goodly chunk of the £10 millions.

The disruption in the sector may well also throw up a small nugget, where businesses become stretched.

My reading of the fundraise statement is that is primarily to redevelop the Calne site rather than further acquisitions .

And yes ,I too would have liked to buy some more at 560p....

The Carr's agriculture supply business is a jointly owned venture with Edward Billington;the only thoughts I have here is that Wynnstay & Carrs Billington cover much the same area and are major competitors although Carrs extends into NW Scotland & Wynnstay into Wales. NWF the other listed agri business also operates in NW England.Carr's also own a separate animal suppliments business operating in USA & UK.I would have thought Carrs Billington was worth a great deal more than £10m as only half its value is represented by Carr's holding.I would have thought that an expansion outside Wynnstays area is perhaps more likely.I am a shareholder in Wynnstay,Carrs & NWF!!!

Carr's business would be a super transformative acquisition if that is the target. From memory of Carr's accounts that would need more money than they have raised though!

There is some speculation that they may be looking to buy part of CARR that are currently coming to the end of a review.
