Taking a long term view, is the market so changed that Whitbread won't return to its former glories? It has survived Covid , even if Covid has some more googlies to throw at us , and at some point surely will be paying out solid dividends again? I may be wrong , just come back to Whitbread after a 20 yr break, and I haven't really followed it in the meantime. My simplistic view is that some companies have gone under with covid but those that aren't crippled with debt are likely to eventually recover.
I am a bit puzzled by the BB title ; did he get a good deal or is this a very old thread!

Premier Inn continues to rise. I guess still on the back of less and less flying restrictions - now including the USA

I think we are onto a winner here, staycations and higher prices will have meant high occupancy levels which will no doubt be reflected in the bottom line. Premier Inn's strong brand will have made them a hotel of choice as we have begun to struggle out of the pandemic.
The directors certainly seem to have been thinking like that as they have been piling in - see the top of this thread.

Travel rules and Premier Inn.
As the new rules have relaxed the entry requirements into
the UK we should expect to see more tourists
use Premier Inn.

'Premier Inn Ibn Battuta Mall now the largest in Middle East'

The hotel has an extension, increasing the number of rooms to almost 600

The Premier Inn Ibn Battuta Mall has unveiled an extension to the property. From Septembre 9, the extension will make it the largest Premier Inn in the Middle East.

The development has seen the extension of the property’s all-day dining restaurant, Nuevo, and an enhanced room offering, increasing the number of guest rooms to 594. Rooms have been given an “upgraded [and] refreshed style,” promised the hotel.

Other facilities include a spa, swimming pool, fitness centre, Costa Coffee shop, and a licensed bar at Mr Toad’s Pub and Kitchen.

Mark Whitlock, regional operations director, Premier Inn Middle East, said: “It’s such an exciting time for the region and to be able to unveil our latest property development ahead of the ‘World’s Greatest Show’ is testament to the agility and passion of the entire team at Premier Inn ME. We are looking forward to welcoming guests to our bigger and improved property in September.”

In 2019, Premier Inn opened its seventh UAE hotel – The Premier Inn Al Jaddaf. At the time of opening, it was the largest property for the brand outside of the UK, with 389 rooms. The company also said at that time that the hotel was “flagship̶1; property – a joint venture between Emirates Group and Whitbread – “signals a new era for Premier Inn Middle East, with greater emphasis on guest experience alongside convenience for mid-market business and leisure travellers.”

Definitely a strong recovery share and a favourite in the hospitality sector being a brand people can trust as we slowly emerge from these pandemic troubled times.

Whitbreads current PE is about 6 (of a normal non-covid years profits of £1b)

So people buying for a recovery to £1b profits.

Saw it, but I think it's a bit out dated... they said PI had 76,000 rooms, whereas current count is 90,000+Nevertheless .... It gives a good run down on the value proposition of the brand, and why it won market share post financial crisis. This should flow through to post covid crisis and I think this will repeat
