Looking at Wey education's web site "post" results it appears that ecademy is the "big" story they want to promote. I suspect we'll hear a lot more about this shortly.

This is a bit like TUTE: Tute has delivered 15,000 hours of lessons to over 400 schools and 350,000 students. Partners in learning include BT, Durham University, Shireland Collegiate Academy and Achievement for All.

hxxp://www.tute.com/

Like InterHigh Tute appear to be based in Wales. WEY now have Tute's ex-regional manager working for them on the ecademy project. So its possible that we too might get a significant share of 350,000 students and more!

Why not?

Thanks miti1000:

Good luck with your future trading. I'm here for a long while yet.
This Summer (the END and BEGINNING of new school year) will be a great time to be in WEY Education and June is just a month and half away!

Lets look at the "dream" not the current reality (just for a change)..

I was thinking what was the dream "fair value" for controlling/first mover the entire UK industry of "virtual schools" .

I'd say £100m.... On the hope it will be a £1 billion company eventually.

You might say "ridiculous" but we now have £1 billion virtual shops selling pretty naff clothes to teenagers (booHoo) based on valuations that are a bit silly... Why not billion pound education establishments for the same teenage market?

Fair value is how big do you think virtual schools will be in your dreams??

What percentage of the USA market is for virtual schools?
What percentage of he Chinese market might be for virtual schools?
What percentage of rich middle east families might want a virtual Western education for their daughters?

I have been buying at regular intervals. we will see new developments (I guess - at end of academic year) from end of June onwards? They role out new software for grammar school and local authority portals etc - perhaps upgrade InterHigh site as well. All this is only about 3 months off.

I now have more of these shares than I do in Triad PLC - that is saying something!

Yes they have announced a THIRD direction for the school - helping local authorities find extra places for pupils who currently do not have a school place . This academic area is huge in the USA.

From the results:

The Group has created "Wey ecademy" to offer B2B services to third parties, including Local Authorities, other schools etc. who do not require the full services of the Group's online schools. The marketing team is being built and this area has considerable potential, though given the nature of the demand, the average period of a pupil's attendance is likely to be measured in months' rather than in years. However, the Group believes that not only does Wey ecademy have a place in the market but it offers an attractive proposition to Local Authorities and other education providers seeking a solution for displaced children.

I expect this area to get bigger and bigger - virtual schools are clearly significantly cheaper than bricks and mortar.

The average cost to build a UK academy is about £35 million.
On top of this the government roughly gives £6,500 a year per pupil.

Interhigh gets into the top 15% (by results) but costs just
£3,000 a year per pupil. Then of course, there is no £35 million
to build a virtual school.

From their website:
Cost of studying in Years 10 and 11 inclusive of 8 core iGCSEs £3,000 p.a

The new GRAMMAR school version of interhigh will cost the same as a government secondary school place but with the pound falling 20% against most currencies this equates to a 20% cut in price...

Virtual schools make academic, social, global and economic sense, they should be encouraged by all.

The school gates:

This video is three days old (one of the founders)... Really well done - explains the whole thing in detail

The maximum current potential price for WEY would be the average price a UK company has that employs about 20 to 30 graduates and has about 600 people who volunteer to market and advertise the school (the children making youtube and blogs about the school). Theoretically such as set up could generate lots of interesting and world beating ideas and could be worth a large fortune (billions) - who knows what the future brings!

From website:
Part of the Infinity experience will be for all students to develop their social and communication skills through the extra-curricular programs and to be physically active. Where possible, we will help all students set up and maintain their extra-curricular interests and we will help encourage our students to engage in community service, the Duke of Edinburgh’s’ Award Scheme ( ) and other activities.

It would be great if a charity somewhere raised some money to allow children in war zones (perhaps Syria or Somalia or Afghanistan) to continue with their education via such organisations as WEY education. Great technology exists to help so many many young children around the world, its a crime not to use it!

Looking at Infinity Educations web site etc, it definitely has a "beta" feel about it (eg still being developed, not really fully "live")... I would not get too excited by results saying "Infinity has X number of students signed up". I've also noted that InterHigh seems to appeal more to girls so perhaps Infinity has been set up to try and break into the "boys" market... Anyway should be an interesting few months ahead of us.

This is a NEW video (30th March) on one of the founders. Poor quality video but very impressive as a person. Worth listening to so as to get the type of people who are running this company

Found via this site:

she said::
a) Easy to get teachers
b) Large numbers of overseas students now signing up ("changed completely" - her words)
c) many educationalists for each student
d) Teachers say get through 300% MORE of what they want to say via on-line compared to classroom.
(that is a massive massive advantage)

It would be nice to think that there was a relationship to the market Cap of LTG compared to WEY.

Eg if one gets valued a lot more then so should the other one... In that on-line education is the industry for both these companies.

One does online educaton for current business people and the other does online education for future business people. LTG currently worth about £300 million on profits of £1m and turnover of £19M (advfn figures)..

Eg if we (WEY) make a profit of £50K, using LTG parallel, we should be worth £10M, profit £100K the market cap of £20M, and profit of £200K give a market cap of £40M.

Something like that.... I doubt we'll make a profit this year though, lots of investment going on.

GlennRCharles: your logic is faulty. I've used youtube to do loads of car maintenance - its far far easier to have ONE person and ONE car in your driveway to work on then be in a class of 30 people all looking at one car (or one book case etc).

This also goes for music ...

In school imagine 30 kids going wild with saws and molten iron!!!
Its way safer in home with help of a nominated adult.

Hi woody and others:

My feeling about these coming results are that "We've had our big rises" so any good news is already probably factored in.

I half expect the price to fall slightly after the results - perhaps even before (as probably no new news that we dont already know about) and some people might be expecting too much too early. If there was something "major" you can bet your life someone would have bought a lot this week. Since they have not, one assumes no new fireworks.

I am in these shares for the MEDIUM term (eg a few years) provided no really bad news so a lack of huge "new good news" will not really concern me - just as long as it looks like the company is still growing nicely.

I am believer in Online Education not a day trader.
