The London mayor said it was OK to crowd on buses and tubes in march .I was saying he was clueless then and I still say it .How do these people get elected .Useless

He couldn't run to the loo if taken short let alone run the Capital.

News speculating, again, we run out of Hospital Beds before Christmas...

Why have we all these Nightingale Hospital sitting idle
Probably, more the case that we have run out of Doctors and Nurses.
Heaven forbid the media start having a go at the Government for not recruiting staff over the last years instead of "cutbacks"

Used to be that you could leave School and enter the Nursing profession.
Now you are tied up in the University System...

Still have to keep the Universities full to generate income. Youngsters have to take on all sorts of debt to pay to keep the Universities in business.
5 years time, they will start to become a thing of the past as tuition goes online.
It will all be The Open University...
Rant over...

They have waited on everything. I can tell you what will happen 2 weeks before and so can yourself. ,It was the same in march it doesn't make sense like you say .Just delaying the inevitable. In march most was saying close down at least the week before. They let Cheltenham, a large concert and a huge Liverpool game that brought Spaniards over that couldn't play in their own country over .The call starmer captain hindsight these have no Foresight .

Well 'let's move on' did not last very long.

As to Corona, Corona, Corona as Trump says, we will really only know roughly who died of Corona in say three years time when we can look back at the deaths per annum.

As I have probably stated here before, a relative on mine died in March - he was 95.

On his death certificate were three things:- Covid, demenentia and pneumonia. Now what killed him?

This might make me unpopular, however the virus is probably taking a few months off the lives of most who have died of it. The great majority being quite old and ill.

Obviously every life is most important.

My mates chin mask doesn't work but worn properly it would help .Many believe that asymptomatic transmission is driving much of the COVID-19 pandemic, which would suggest that viruses aren't typically riding out on coughs or sneezes. By this reasoning, aerosols could prove to be the most important transmission vehicle. So, it is worth looking at which masks can stop aerosols. All in the fabricEven well-fitting N95 respirators fall slightly short of their 95% rating in real-world use, actually filtering out around 90% of incoming aerosols down to 0.3?µm. And, according to unpublished research, N95 masks that don't have exhalation valves - which expel unfiltered exhaled air - block a similar proportion of outgoing aerosols. Much less is known about surgical and cloth masks, says Kevin Fennelly, a pulmonologist at the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. In a review9 of observational studies, an international research team estimates that surgical and comparable cloth masks are 67% effective in protecting the wearer. In unpublished work, Linsey Marr, an environmental engineer at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and her colleagues found that even a cotton T-shirt can block half of inhaled aerosols and almost 80% of exhaled aerosols measuring 2?µm across. Once you get to aerosols of 4–5?µm, almost any fabric can block more than 80% in both directions, she says.Multiple layers of fabric, she adds, are more effective, and the tighter the weave, the better. Another study10 found that masks with layers of different materials - such as cotton and silk - could catch aerosols more efficiently than those made from a single material.

Out of that lot that I read quickly as we can all produce figures the one thing that stood out was not masks but closing of borders .That's obviously the best way because if we got it to very low levels it cant come back in ,but they can't do that it would cost the economy too much .Foreign travel has spread it like wildfire as the korean doc says .
