Summary of stockopedia 2021 pick comment.Volex is very much a quality and momentum play, with solid signs of robust profitability and business strength. Its cash balance is strong and improving and it's debt free. Shares in the company performed exceptionally through 2020 and brokers have responded to new acquisitions with upward revisions to earnings forecasts. It's not outrageously expensive, but value investors might be deterred by a fairly rich rating. In the H1 results last November, executive chairman Nat Rothschild, said: Our outlook for the remainder of the year remains unchanged, absent any material disruptions that may be caused by Covid-19, and we continue to invest across the business in order to meet customer demand and deliver on our long-term growth prospects

Still here from 90p. The only question is. Should I buy more. Could see a nice rice towards £4 now we are making new highs.

The Business and Money section of today’s Sunday Telegraph ( page 3 ) states that , during 2020 , Tesla delivered 499,550 vehicles , of which 180,570 vehicles were delivered in the final quarter . Tesla has established a factory in Shanghai , the only electric vehicle plant outside of California , where production of the Model Y has started , with deliveries soon . Meanwhile , competition in the USA is intensifying as legacy carmakers increase their investments in electric vehicles .

Could see recent high of 315p go today, then we're on the road to the sunny uplands.

Mmm I think over the coming year/s this share should do well. I have a modest direct holding from 90p and an indirect holding through a DSM holding. I am not tempted to sell, but I am obviously biased.

A valid question but one that could be asked of any company taken private at any price.

That would be a very foolish move. Volex is acquisition hungry. An attraction for sellers is getting some of the payment in Volex shares. A track record of a rising Volex share price post acquisition will encourage management of privately owned businesses to sell to Volex at earnings enhancing (for Volex) p/e's, because the vendors can ride the upside. If Volex went private, acquisitions would be much harder to come by and Volex would have to pay more for them.

But he could have tried that at 32p, or at any rate under £1 - but didn't - so why try now?

As we know, Nat Rothschild is the majority shareholder. He is only a few % off the trigger level for having to make a bid for the outstanding share capital. This is worth bearing in mind, as he and his supporting institutions are now in a position to take VLX private to capture future value for themselves. Time will tell.

I want 400p but may have to revisit that target with new acquisitions on the horizon, plus how rapid the ev market grows.
