23/11/2023 10:12 | I have been picking up the STAB, STAC, RSAB Prefs. All yielding over 7%. I think they are a longer term bargain on these yields | ![]() dope007
23/11/2023 09:53 | Ah yes you IS a politician - playing the man and not the ball! Anyway back to share chat. I wonder how much the divvi would have been if they had not done a share buy back, which does not seem to be working. Poor board must be really frustrated seeing their bonuses disappear over the horizon. | ![]() swiss paul
23/11/2023 08:37 | maybe we should go back to the word " THOU" for singular use ? :) | ![]() arja
23/11/2023 08:24 | no, but if I was an english teacher I would try to educate you as should be " ARE you a politician " , although not knowing there is not a singular and plural of the word "you" is understandable if you are a foreigner :). Also , I talk sense and hence could not be a politician or a TORY politician anyway ! | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 19:48 | Wow arja - is you a politician? | ![]() swiss paul
22/11/2023 14:48 | whatever strategy we adopt , the key thing is to do what market is telling us and always expect the unexpected , eg . the dow and US indices rising since 2.30 pm and FTSE still down on the day ! | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 14:20 | I quoted FACTS sport . Yes , the dividends marginally improve the situation but you can get about 5 to 6 % on 1 or 2 year bonds with financial institutions and no risk to your capital - compares with 6.7% yield with VMUK but you know that can change quickly if profits fall . So I do NOT make a rookie error bit some investors on these thread are obsessed with divi yield - maybe not you :) | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 13:27 | arja: you might be (forgive me if wrong) making a rookie error of forgetting the dividend. 😀 I would screen print my winnings but that would be a bit full on and wrong on so many levels. | netcurtains
22/11/2023 13:13 | looking at long term chart on Bigcharts as ADVFN makes it difficult unless one has a super fast trigger finger and it needed perfect timing to make money in last 12 months or so.It fell to 120 level in about October 2022 as you said and then rocketed to 200 level in early 2023 !But is went to 140 level a few months later and has only moved up a bit since . I assume you bought at about that level on it;s way to 200 . Long term it is not great and was about 370 level in mid 2018 . Seems that it could go back to 200 or down to 120 or 140 level and hard to pick it TBH :) | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 12:57 | netcurtains, my comments were about shares generally and not about VMUK particularly . Emotionally it is hard to cut a loss when one has a portfolio of stocks bought for long or medium term = human nature I guess . It is why I trade and stick to OAAT policy normally as easier to focus and to cut loss quickly if I get it wrong - that is not often says he modestly :) . I will look at chart and see how it actually does look for periods longer than a year . Yes , it has a good dividend yield but that is only relevant if chart is uptrending or any capital loss might exceed the dividend :) . but great that you have made money . | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 09:54 | arja: Well if you look at the low of sept 2022, the chart over the past year and a bit has generally been up and I get the 7%... What can I say, I'm about 12% up over 12 months I've currently held this share .... In other periods of time, when I held this share I was up a lot more but a win is a win.. Cheers Net... | netcurtains
22/11/2023 09:36 | netcurtains , certainly day or short term trading can be fun if making some or heaps of money which I do when other work and tasks in life allow. It is only gambling when doing it without using or being unable to read charts and using charts and not having a portfolio transformed my fortunes . So you got it wrong sport :) and of course one golden rule is to always cut a loss quickly when it occasionally happens which is something investors rarely do and especially if not using charts . They just hang on on hope of recovery as paper loss increases but a paper loss is a REAL loss of course for a few reasons such as lost opportunities cost. But more than one way of making money . Oh, I never worry even a little and an investor tends to worry and especially if he or she watches their capital erode when markets in bearish mood . :) . good luck with VMUK but has now fallen almost to level it closed at in OZ sadly . Wonder if chancellor's speech today will have a positive effect although these Tory clowns get very little right . | ![]() arja
22/11/2023 08:58 | flyfisher: Can you put a bit more flesh on that £7bn? How does that compare to other UK banks? this is the link - it appears to be for all UK banks From this link (it gives all the banks) - virgin's borrowing is much lower than average and falling: (download the spreadsheet).. So your question "it will be interesting......" Answer is " no it will not be interesting.." | netcurtains
22/11/2023 08:34 | The £7bn debt that they have under the TFSME scheme falls due from 2024 - 2025. Replacing the debt with bonds will be at a higher rate than they currently pay. It will be interesting to see any comments on this in the results presentation. | ![]() flyfisher
22/11/2023 08:18 | arja: I have no real idea for the reasons for falls and rises. I like the dividend and hopefully the company will rise over time or be taken over... Either of the two scenarios or the dividend yield is good enough for me... I do think, as a day trader (which you sound like) does lead to more constant worry... And at the end of the day, the day trader tends to make less than longer term investors.... So day trading can be fun but often its just another gambling addition.... So be careful which side of the fence your trading ends up on... | netcurtains
22/11/2023 08:07 | closed at 157.2p in OZ but looking like it might be about to turn here in UK as holding the 159 level ! | ![]() arja
21/11/2023 12:34 | chart support is at about 147 and maybe worst case scenario Netcurtains . So do not panic yet :) | ![]() arja
21/11/2023 09:13 | arja: lol - you always say that (bad news coming) for about 3 years of posting, and it never comes... I think you'll have to try and ignore your dark thoughts or perhaps trim your holdings so you worry less... | netcurtains
21/11/2023 08:27 | other banks are struggling today too I notice | ![]() arja
21/11/2023 08:26 | a bit optimnistic Netcurtains but might add a penny or two at best. There must be bad news coming on VMUK sadly | ![]() arja
21/11/2023 08:15 | looks like a possible up day today then... Touchwood.... | netcurtains
21/11/2023 07:51 | again down in oz to 160p equiv ! Hopefully uk will not follow it today :) | ![]() arja
20/11/2023 20:31 | crazi, the point is that VUK should have been up in OZ as UK is of course lead market and closed 320 cents equiv on friday . So it was down 7 cents from UK close on friday and fell further to 3068.45 in UK and probably will open down at least by 5 cents on opening in OZ tonight . HOPE I am WRONG as have a modest holding unfortunately :) | ![]() arja
20/11/2023 15:12 | OZ only dropped 0.97% which is nothing. LSE getting shafted as usual. I see the FTSE 100 CEO's have all given Jeremy Hunt and the LSE a blasting that the LSE sucks and is on a constant downer... They need to sort out this non stop shorting of the banks. Wall Street have reported the highest short position on Banks since 2008. I suppose you could argue at some point there will be an almighty short squeeze... Share buyback scam doing nothing for support... as usual... | ![]() crazi |
