09/5/2023 18:16 | "Shore Capital: Virgin Money could be a bid target First-half results from Virgin Money (VMG) were a ‘mixed bag’, but the shares are worth more than double the current price, says Shore Capital. Analyst Ben Williams retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and ‘fair value’ target price of 320p on the challenger bank, which fell 1.2%, or 1.8p, to 145.4p at the end of last week. The bank reported better-than-expected profit in the first half owing to higher net interest margins, which were largely offset by worse-than-expected bad loan provisions. Williams said the ‘outlook is mixed’ for the rest of the year. ‘Virgin Money’s shares are down 16% year-to-date and currently trade on a trailing profit/tangible net asset value of just 0.4 times versus guidance for return on tangible equity of more than 10% in full-year 2024,’ he said. ‘Our last published fair value of 320p equates to a trailing profit/tangible net asset value of 0.9 times and implies the shares are worth more than double the current price.’ Williams does ‘not think the very low valuation can be overlooked’ and that Virgin Money ‘could be a bid target if its share price doesn’t recover soon’." | pj84 | |
