Vianet is a solid business with plenty of cash. It has not been exciting but the decent dividends get paid and the business is steadily developing. The new contract on which an RNS was issued recently has only just been signed and obviously comes into future periods. If you think the nature of the business is changing from what it was then you may want to invest.

Yes but playing it up as IoT is a clear attempt to get away from what is really a boring business IMO.

If the allowance of remote access is the definition to call yourself an IoT company, then so should a whole host of tech hardware firms.

The financials today have brought the market back down to earth.

Looks cheap to me on a fy18 PEG of 0.4 and a fy19 PEG of 0.6. Results look in line to me (what do others think?) but price not gone low enough for me to add.

Vending technology allowing remote access. That is precisely what IoT is.

Obviously I should go to Specsavers! I saw Jeffian's post and jumped straight to the conclusion he was referring to today's market reaction. I didn't notice the date - Doh!

Have joined you here today. I just think the recent acquisitions and contract wins are a sign that VNET is about to enter a period of growth, having treaded water for a few years. There was also a large purchase of stock by the chairman in the summer, coupled with another (albeit smaller) purchase in August. The chart breakout is another positive sign, which first alerted me to ita couple of months ago. If I'm wrong, well I'm happy to pick up the dividend for a while to see how it plays out. GLAH.

Alan,

There was an acquisition on the 4th Oct - Vendman.
The previous post refers to that, we had a nice leap in the share price then too.

It certainly does! The RNS sounded quite excited about it too. Although it's a big contract win rather than an acquisition.

Well the market seems to like that acquisition!

Hi Alan. One of the points I always make to managements who rush to cut the divi is that shareholders will put up with an awful lot if they have a bit of income to sustain them through the hard times. A divi cut will slaughter the share price so it's a lose/lose. If it's unaffordable, that's a different matter, but if they can afford it, they should pay one.

Spot on Jeffian. I've thought of selling a few times but it's a well-run company with a decent dividend, so boring seems quite good.

Positive statement today. They won't set the world alight but the maintained dividend makes it sufficiently attractive to hold the shares whilst the business grows.

With 85% recurring income and the Exceptional Costs out of the way now, this year should be pretty good.

Don't know but the yield's quite high and investors are desperate for yield.

Whatever the reason, it's welcome!

That's why I like divi stocks. It makes the waiting less painful.

Reasonable trading update yesterday. It's a bit 'slow and steady' but if they maintain the divi whilst pursuing "our exciting medium to long term prospects", I can live with that.

An 800,000 buy just went through.
No wonder we are up today.

He's tipped it before in 2014 (see post 449 above) and another advfn poster suggested he had held since Bruline days (join the club!) so he may be 'talking his book'.
