king wizard - VNET is very illiquid, and it doesn't take much buying or selling to push the price up and down quite fast.
But when things stabilise (and who know when that will be) we should see some institutional buying into any weakness.

Hearing that:
(i) the share price decline is retail-led (not institutional).
(ii) the company has not seen any impact from the coronavirus situation, either in client behavior or in the ability to deliver their products (as they have excess inventories for situations where there could be disruptions in supplies of components).
It is important to remember that the company manufactures/assembles their products exclusively in the UK.
As such, it seems panic-related only and certainly overdone.

thomstrike - totally agree with your comments above. Vianet seems to tick lots of boxes - recurring revenue, growth, profitability, strong balance sheet, dividend.
Liquidity is an issue. I think the best plan is to acquire shares and just hold on to them. In the end it is very likely to be bought.

I came across Vianet recently. It looks to me as an under-covered gem. Direct exposure to the IoT trend: growing and under-penetrated. Its product can be easily adapted to adjacent verticals. One-stop-shop, given competence in hardware + software and even contactless payments. Recurrent business is more than 80% of revenues. Great opportunity to grow in the US and selected european countries, also on the back of recently signed contracts with well-known clients. Scalable business given asset-light structure. Good FCF generation and dividend yield. Aligned management and shrewd main shareholder. Liquidity is an issue though. Very interesting.

Not come across treasury shares being sold back on the market. Did they do a buyback at some point? - if so at what price?. I guess it’s also a type of dilution as most would expect treasury shares to be cancelled at some point. Be interested in views on this.

Agree that the treatment of the deferred consideration release on the EPS stated in the Financial summary is confusing.
Also concerned that Corporate Restructuring is treated as exceptional although a routine charge - and rising.
The balance sheet is also carrying Capitalised Development costs of almost £5m - a significant write off waiting to happen.

Mind you, I'm not clear about why a "deferred consideration" has anything to do with EPS. This is part of the cost of buying a business so surely the impact is on the balance sheet?

I have to say that Note 4 in the accounts deferred consideration should have been adjusted for in the EPS. Very misleading if people are attributing a PE value to it. Looking fully valued at these levels

panshanger - I don't think there's any reason to think that Lord Lee has sold out of Vianet. I just think he has focused on other shares in recent articles, like Charles Taylor Group and Tarsus.

I think we just have to be patient and he will write about them in some future article.

Great to see the share price rising quite fast. Small volume, though. If a serious seller appears it could reverse quite quickly. Hopefully that won't happen.

Good to see that all looks nicely on track here. H1 top line revenues up to £8.5m as I hoped and Smart Machines growing at 40% P/A.

I like it. Pithy phrases that stick in your mind like that can catch on in corporate culture. Encourages the sales team and developers to think beyond their traditional markets, for example.

"industry-agnostic"

Now that's a phrase you don't see every day! Who writes these things?!

Good results though.
