lucky - fully aware of that. Just pointing out what NR said, and that maybe he should have been more circumspect in commenting so bullishly on something so obviously out of his control.

The timing of ISO is just about the only thing that has not happened the way Neill said it would, and the timing is clearly beyond his control, even though we have influence inside the ISO process. I got the impression that the holdup is to do with wrangling over the lateral sizes of GNPs, to save the faces of some big interests out there whose products will not cut the mustard like Nanene.

Mike Brennan said he does a lot of back-testing of the stuff he wrote in the header to this thread, which he has not felt the need to amend to date, as just about everything else that NR has forecast has come to pass. Mike is very analytical, and seems just as super-confident about the future of VRS as ever.

I slept very easy in my bed last night, and not just because I was knackered after a long day!

Thanks grabster, from what I could gather the cost of setting up a supply network at present is colossal, I would agree with you

MJ10 - well they would wouldn't they (to almost quote Mandy Rice Davies). For reason given in that link above. Investors are free to choose which path they believe in of course.

Thanks Shavian, liked this bit

'I can quote Matt: ‘you guys are clearly pleased about what has happened so far this year, but you’ll look back soon and regard that as being pretty ordinary’. I took ‘soon’ to mean as being before the end of the year.'

Ian, it has been explained several times regarding the ISO, it is being blocked by other companies that don't meet the current standard, Neill has no control over that and neither do ISO. It will be held back by objections for as long as possible .

Great post shavers. Clearly, we are watching an exciting new industry emerge before our eyes and it seems vrs are at the forefront of it. As it becomes formalised, which looks to be by the end of this year, ie certificated and geic opening, interest will grow, likely exponentially. Glad to be holding here and thanks for neill and co their skilful positioning here. Aimo. Dyor. Best ellis

and if China steals the Nanene IP they don't get access to all the other shiny toys coming out of the labs - except at a massive premium...

Interesting that you say the Chinese will get the IP sooner or later Shavian, so long as Nanene is established and the name is out there that won't make a bit of difference.
China has changed and they are going for quality and branding now, yes they have the rip off stuff but they are fully aware of that and try to avoid, they are as sceptical regarding claims as we are.
Word of mouth has become far more important..... read China's Change all is clearly explained in there.

Shavian - thx for the write-up.

"4. ISO won’t happen tomorrow, but good progress is being made there and particularly with US accreditation which is coming ‘very soon’"

well let's hope it comes sooner that NR thought ISO would: back at the ID in March he described ISO as being 'very very close' and 'imminent'.

I had to leave the party at 1845 to catch a train, so may have missed a few gems as tongues were loosening up, but no doubt others will fillin more details. Here’s my take on the day:

1. What a great team we have at VRS: CEO, CFO, DIT guys, Nigel and David all nice people oozing with positivity. A privilege to share the day with them.
2. Great to meet so many fellow investors. Sorry to break the myth but I am reasonably sure that SG1 exists in flesh and blood, and can hit a few good balls. I got to walk several rewarding miles with my fellow Mikes (Brennan and Spike Edwards), Serratio, and others and learned a lot.
3. We should stop obsessing about the morning RNS. News will come when it comes. I walked with Matt and Peter from DTI. They have both done the ‘resistance to interrogation’ course but both are palpably excited about the pipeline of stuff coming down the conveyor belt towards us. I got the impression that nothing is about to break this week, but there are a few bits in the imminent category (maybe pre-AGM?) and a lot more in Q4. I can quote Matt: ‘you guys are clearly pleased about what has happened so far this year, but you’ll look back soon and regard that as being pretty ordinary’. I took ‘soon’ to mean as being before the end of the year.
4. We worry too much about IP protection. The top secret stuff seems to lie in the combination of chemicals used to treat the graphite as it is rolled around in a pretty ordinary set of machines. Like the Coca Cola recipe this can be controlled in-house, even if the process of production is out-sourced in time to locations close to the customer. They are still working on the best ways to get the final product out, and this will vary from customer to customer. The Chinese in particular will want to get their hands on the IP and will sooner or later replicate what we have now, but by that time VRS should have the Nanene, Hextotene and Graphinks brands established in the minds of the marketplace which will give us a significant lead. And there’s plenty more mind-blowing stuff coming down the line from 2DTech and Cambridge to augment what we have now, and the Chinese won’t get that before we do.
4. ISO won’t happen tomorrow, but good progress is being made there and particularly with US accreditation which is coming ‘very soon’
5. The AECOM deal is potentially company-making on its own. Sadly the two AECOM guys had to pull out of the golf day to attend an awards ceremony or something, but Matt says they are very excited about the collaboration, and are in a hurry to get graphene into their many applications. ‘AECOM are the engineering darlings of the US government’, and the whole US infrastructure needs updating badly. Just think about the megatons of Nanene which that will require.

That’e enough waffle for me right now. Probably a bit more later as I remember it.

haz101 - In answer to your question (31243) - I don't take hydrogen seriously for road use, neither in fuel cells or as combustion fuel. There is an old thread somewhere on advfn that explains better than I can. I'll see if I can find it. And the advances now being heralded in battery design and charging facilities kill off any need for it. The V2G prospects also favour battery vehicles.

edit: thread link (ten years old! But still relevant)

I did indeed Eel, very cool they are too.

Had a chat with Peter and Matt, both great guys and as superg already said, the enthusiasm from them and the other VRS team members is abundant.

Next few months as we run up to Christmas should be interesting.

Was hard to keep track of some chatter as I spent a lot of the time zig zagging across the course and in the long stuff.

I will still be thinking about the golf day tomorrow, mainly because of the nettle stings on my right leg while hunting for David Kerr's ball (again).

Sergio Garcia was with us. Well that's his new name having taken 5 putts from about 5 feet away.

A very enjoyable day.

Grabster what do you think of Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles? do you think that batteries in future could be ruled obsolete?

Article below aimed more at solar energy but im sure it has ramifications for Hydrogen fuel cell use in general
