06/9/2017 20:58 | pps Everyone looks for positives. Look for negatives and beware confirmation bias. | apad
06/9/2017 20:50 | Different strokes for different folks, janeann. I am a complete numpty in trading in and out of growth stocks, so I have learned not to try. Great at hindsight - aren't we all :-) Better at big caps like GSK and RDSB that I use as a bank when they are at the bottom of their sine wave. Got some money - don't know what to do with it - Oh! look, GSK is under the cosh, so park it there for a while. I work quite hard at identifying class acts that will withstand adversity. The prettiest girl on the dance floor, the best car in the car park, look at that 316 stainless steel spanner from New Zealand. That's about what companies do and how they sit with their competitors, rather than balance sheets and fairy story promises. It's also about their performance over as long a term as is possible to research. I reject far more companies than those in which I retain an interest. I'd rather miss some good companies than buy a duffer. So, I buy small first holdings and continue to buy as I gain more understanding. If the story changes scardey cat is out of there. I've got frightened and dumped good companies, and held on despite the bleedin' obvious, of course. There are sectors (e.g. supermarkets) that I think are hilarious and wonder why anybody in possession of their senses would want to own any part of them. A company like TSTL is, for me, a real find. When the directors pulled a fast one, I added because the story hadn't changed - 90p a year ago! I try to make my own mind up - perhaps the hardest thing to do on any subject for a pack animal. So, I listen to other commentators without any prejudice about their style - just their arguments and the data. As a result of all this I have transmogrified Stairway into AIM shares. Something I would never have done with a top down strategy. And I have two shares that are 44% of my portfolio. But it's a great ride. In addition I sometimes bet on roulette wheel stocks for fun (whim of iron). So, that's more or less, the stream of consciousness. apad ps The first share I bought was Richards & Wallingtons - it built the A45 to Coventry and went bust because the boss was a crook. I was 17 years old :-) | apad
06/9/2017 20:12 | well; a different league apad. (I thought I had a lot of acso!) Your openness of sharing info is admirable. And for the competition also thank you. As a mere novice what I don't understand is why you don't stft as well as btfd? (I try to sell the top and do occasionally/sometim But why not top slice a few and buy back later? especially when you thought other long termers might be doing so? Or is your overall confidence in your stock picking such that a small dip isnt a concern? Just trying to understand/learn and make less mistakes than I have been in the last few days! | janeann

06/9/2017 19:35 | ps TSTL rose 70% since beginning of July. The current fall brings this figure down to 40%. So, it has been a remarkable rise. It wouldn't surprise me if Piedro did some top-slicing. | apad
06/9/2017 19:24 | Nearness of approach to 200 day SMA in this year, big. apad | apad
06/9/2017 18:54 | No couldn't find anything. Sorry should have been a question mark there. Why so low on your btfd | big7ime
06/9/2017 18:25 | ABC hedging to keep things consistent - so many recent company earnings have looked great due to the weakness of the pound | panic investor
06/9/2017 18:07 | FWIW I think 220 - 230 would be a BTFD opportunity for TSTL, which is unlikely this close to FY results. apad | apad
06/9/2017 17:36 | No news on TSTL, Big? Unless I have missed it. Dixon sold at 273p on the 17th Aug. They went up to 317 on 4 Sept. and have corrected to 270p (above the 50 week moving average). No unusual volume. Looks like some sensible trading to me. FY mid Oct. apad | apad

06/9/2017 15:30 | BT sorry it will have to wait. On hold. Operating on mobile phone. Not ideal. Will look next week. red | redartbmud
06/9/2017 13:35 | Excerpt from ABC previous rns: "The continued weakness of Sterling against the currencies in which the Group trades has boosted reported revenues. However, our hedging policy is likely to largely offset these topline gains from currency at the reported profit line." So, ABC is betting on sterling - I think they should stick to antibodies. apad | apad
06/9/2017 11:52 | TRAK update today. The case-study continues! Not a single number with a pound sign before it :-) What a warning sign. apad ps red is hiding from the driving rain in Torquay. | apad
06/9/2017 11:41 | Thanks for the info Big. Some tintin at Barclays and BOO's price moves and it spoils my day! IQE still rising - I know it's a problem, but it's better than the other way around :-) apad | apad
06/9/2017 11:20 | Red as an accountant could you shed some light on a query I have with the IQE accounts if you have a few mins, thanks Scrolling down to consolidated statement of comprehensive income (below cons inc sm) it appears they've made a loss after currency differences Which figs are bottom line, I.e should we as investors care too much about that or is it the basic eps that's the important bottom line (in the bank) figs. Appreciate in adv, cheers | big7ime
06/9/2017 11:13 | BOO snippet from Stockopedia (credit to user ls2g08) : "News on BooHoo today, Barclays have upgraded to overwieght on the back of 3 month ComScore and Google Trends data suggesting that PLT continues it's upward trajectory and is reaching material scale. Notably the analyst was previously bearish on the stock. EPS forecast for FY18/19 raised by 4%." | madmix |
