31/8/2017 10:10 | I can see your argument Big. Whilst the divi is maintained and if the company doesn't spend big, also if your timing is good. Fine. One other negative point is that they have all borrowed large amounts at incredibly low rates. So, another risk is bank rates starting to rise so their debt become more onerous and their yields less attractive. Oops. I tend to favour companies that steadily increase their divis, e.g. HLMA, over utilities that used to cycle up and down in a regular sine wave. Different times now, though. Anyroadup I have no utilities, one shop, and one insurance company:-) Different styles I guess. apad | apad
31/8/2017 10:00 | I can wait yrs, meantime the shrs pay a great divi Is my thinking | big7ime
31/8/2017 09:59 | Exactly Apad, a buffetesgue principal to buy whilst distressed at bottom of the trough and see your inv recover before others pile in Will be a sweet sector when the majority of cars on forecourt are elec is my way of thinking by which time everyone will be chasing them higher, no? | big7ime
31/8/2017 09:32 | cog looking interesting. announces a date for results and up 12% this morning. One of those shares that trundles along silently, leaps up and then gradually subsides till the next leap. Pretty much doubles in 2 years. | janeann
31/8/2017 09:10 | Insurance APAD? Quality company, but insurance non the less. I too enjoyed their results. | al101uk
30/8/2017 20:51 | Big7 agree mostly but I would question being able to invest in lots of things for 10 years with the pace of change now. There was a good video posted on the jtc thread which is worth watching on disruption in energy and transport. At one point the speaker highlights Kodak who made record profits in 2000 only to go bust a few years later. | homebrewruss
30/8/2017 20:48 | Not posting tomorrow. I would commit Hari Kari but that is too painful so I will commit Hare Krishna instead. Hey Ho....:-( Blue | redartbmud
30/8/2017 20:45 | APlease don't bother posting up mine, if you have a heart and to spare me any embarrassment (ENQ tanked - think it was in the comp!).Will never ever mention TESLA again! (Big7 can takeover) :)DD | discodave4
30/8/2017 20:05 | Big I also do tend to take some off the table when a share really takes off as one never knows how things will pan out.Tend to stay away from blue sky companies without profits or real cash generation in any case. | hydrus
30/8/2017 19:59 | I didn't get back in to BQE, Big. Felt I had probably missed the boat on this rise so didn't update my research. Essentially I chose between BQE and TSTL. I'll have another look. I tend to avoid the pharmaceutical search for a blockbuster, too. FARN was my recent exception. apad | apad
30/8/2017 19:38 | Just noticed OXB nice news today, this is why I don't invest in pharmaceutical research stocks anymore, i first invested in oxbover 20yrs ago at around 5p on hopes for their lentivector tech and cancer treatment, the latter got dropped I think I was lucky to sell some at 130p in 2000 the rest has been languishing ever since, well from 2000 I suppose the last few yrs have given good returns to some, on the roller coaster chart. I very rarely check it now. So many, actually most high tech and pharmaceutical/ and I'll add exploration stocks to that come to nothing and gobble up cash. It's as I was saying earlier, it's just the availability of funding that keeps them alive. Looking at the high flying shares I have had or watched in the past, so many have disappeared it is frightening. You have to get out at least your orig inv when the goings good. And that's my current position with IQE, I wouldn't be surprised if it came right back down again, it's one of a few hot stocks to have right now but in another 10yrs? | big7ime
30/8/2017 19:00 | I'm not bothered Apad, you don't gain much from individual co boards Much prefer this one. Did you get back in to BQE? Still overlooked, the co has pledged to buy back 3m+ shares which considering the tight market for these could really push it much higher. If the second half is as good as first the shares are cheap | big7ime
30/8/2017 18:27 | Let us know the percentage you get, RP. I'll then see what I missed due to carelessness. I read somewhere that people got a third of what they bid for - can't remember where, so it might well be incorrect. FFX got their E-money account late in January and the argument was that it would cut their costs significantly. The CardOne acquisition bought them business customers. I doubt whether we will see much effect from the E-money license in late Sept. interims, but maybe. I take the view that the CEO is in a hurry to establish a brand name. Iff he succeeds then the momentum effect will make this a stunning stock (he uses Easyjet and the big airlines as an analogy). Hardly a risk-free stock! The fan club boards can be dreadful, Big. Commiserations. I don't understand why IQE has so many boards. apad | apad
30/8/2017 18:23 | RP19, I got about 20% of the extra FFX open offer shares I subscribed for. | madmix
30/8/2017 18:06 | I'm still trying to work out how many extra FFX I got. Subscribed for more but know it was well oversubscribed, however, X.O. not properly updated my account yet. | rp19
30/8/2017 17:48 | FFX Still flabbergasted that the price has held up despite all the new stock. Nobody is taking profits, it seems, and folks are still buying. apad | apad
30/8/2017 17:23 | Indeed, H. Beddard has a very good commentary on the CEO's parsimony. Although they are not competing for the lower cost end of the market, they are supplying to insurance brokers - I found that surprising. The TRAK/QTX comparison continues to be interesting. Don't post on the TRAK board :-) apad | apad
30/8/2017 16:43 | Well done on QTX APAD. I continue to hold (after my failed attempt to trade them a couple of months ago). Sensible CEO. | hydrus
30/8/2017 16:37 | You're 40% up in the competition, dacian, so not doing so bad yourself. Publication day tomorrow, I'm looking forward to red's comments :-) apad | apad
30/8/2017 16:33 | :-) My little flurry of BTFD on QTX at the beginning of the year was a good decision. I've just revisited the last accounts and am happy to hold. It is a very competitive market and they are not chasing low margin insurance business. French and US business will be interesting. I'm not inclined to increase before the next results are out (late Feb.) FWIW apad | apad |
