smurfy2001 - Agree as VED is the largest Indian miner with strings connected to every echelon in India as it creates huge wealth around and loads of jobs to the country.

Fuji-what you say is true but there is serious political risk, as we have seen on and off over the past year, in India with VED-and a single large holder-which imo is why the market distrusts shares like VED. Think ENRC.

I am very surprised even shocked when I compare VED to its peers.
VED has issued only 273 million shares with a market cap = £1.75 billion.
Its PE is only 9.9 while its turnover is 15.5 billion !!! 10 times its market cap !
If one compares these factors to say those of KAZ, ANTO, GLEN etc. VED looks well, well undervalued. Adding to that a divi of 41p, I am lost for words.

"We have filed a Writ of Mandamus before Madras High Court and submitted a note on potential safety risks with no supervision of the plant. Bench has directed the district administration and pollution control board to file their response," it said.

According to the filing, the matter is now scheduled for further hearing today.

Just crazy.

Apprehending that the leakage was an act of sabotage, as there was insufficient security apparatus in and around the plant, there was a grave risk and danger to other tanks located inside the plan with flammable chemicals, the petitioner contended that the leakage was due to the irresponsible approach of the officials and the complete disconnection was a serious threat.

I've been looking at this company for a little while now. If Vedanta was BHP Billiton the share price would be double where it is to day, in other words I'm am saying that the current share price is so low due to poor governance of the company.
