Aluminium prices soar on LME after U.S. sanctions on the Russian producer of the metal
Sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Russia’s United Company Rusal Plc, the largest producer of the base metal outside China, is likely to help Indian aluminium producers like Anil Agarwal’s Vedanta Limited and Kumar Mangalam Birla-led Hindalco Industries as prices of the commodity soar.

Aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) have climbed to more than $200 per tonne since the sanctions were imposed.

More dilution for their share plan.

Vedanta Resources plc announces that an application has been made to the London Stock Exchange for the block listing of 265,000 ordinary shares of USD ten cents each (the 'new ordinary shares').

The new ordinary shares will be issued from time to time pursuant to the exercise of employee share options under the Vedanta Performance Share Plan (PSP). On exercise these shares will be issued credited as fully paid and will rank pari passu in all respects with the existing ordinary shares of the Company. The expected date of Admission of these securities to The Official List is16 April 2018.

Vedanta Ltd.’s plan to expand a copper smelter in India as part of an $8 billion drive to boost its national production capacity for metals is being dogged by movie stars and local protesters.

Stars-turned-politicians Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are lending their voices to protests by neighboring villagers against the plant in Tamil Nadu because of health concerns. Vedanta is working on doubling the capacity at the 400,000 metric ton-a-year smelter, which was shut last week for 15 days for regular maintenance, it said.

The smelter received all the necessary regulatory clearances for the expansion and Vedanta was committed to the well-being of the surrounding communities, the company said Monday. It uses zero discharge systems and waste for sustainable applications as well as stringent emission monitoring, it said.

Copper price bears are out as first surplus in six years predicted

On Tuesday copper for delivery in May advanced to a two-week high on the Comex market in New York at $3.065 per pound or $6,755 a tonne after positive manufacturing data from China, the globe's number one metals consumer.

Copper is still down 8% so far in 2018 and the bellwether metal's dimmer prospects is nowhere more evident than on derivatives markets and the shift in positioning of large-scale derivatives speculators such as hedge funds.
