The report reads ok financially given the political climate. I know they have won some significant contracts of late, most notably a circa £2.7m piling job on the M1 managed motorway scheme. They also have a number of opportunities where HS2 is concerned as a sub contractor and own 60 acres of land just south of M1 junction 28 which HS2 runs straight through the middle of! Their diversity of markets and techniques offered somewhat insulates them from sector drops in work which reflects their strength. If they are guilty of one thing it is not reporting good news often enough through the media/website.

Accounts out -

Have not yet been able to disect BUT key metric for me is statutory eps down by 19% BUT significant increase in cash conversion. Curates egg (imo)

The phrase "line with our expectations " is to me a caution as gives no real clarity going ahead - will have to await brokers update notes after analysts meeting with the company

Keller, although a UK company, are much the same size as Van Elle in terms of UK turnover, but obviously perhaps 20+ times as big worldwide and with wider technology. Don't know about all the subsidiaries that Skanska (Cementation), Balfours, etc, etc, run in terms of size, but they are all competitors no doubt.

Van Elle are probably as well motivated, skillful and competitive as any shareholder could hope for, with their only serious disadvantage being that if things do get as tight as I believe they might, the financial strength of a big group counts in tender consideration.

Van Elle is by far the largest specialist geotechnical contractor in the UK and with a history of working on railway contracts. It should be the first port of call for a main contractor.

Van Elle are not partners to the likes of BB, Carillion, Costain etc., they are generally sub contractors to them, subject to plenty of price competition. But that doesn't mean that they won't get plenty of work in a few years from HS2, provided they are competitive. In the meantime they have to potentially put up with the consequences of brexit, which I suspect will reduce the availability of work for them and increase competition among main contractors, who then screw down subcontract prices.

Conversely given VANL's size, they may actually work with all the main contractors, such as Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Costain. Does anyone know?

Could a main contractor they were working with have been de-selected for the hs2 contractor appointments announced this morning?

Big volume today. The larger ones look like sells. Although not sure. Might have expected it to be a bit higher if the bulls were back in play. Tomorrow might be interesting. Stepping lightly as I fear we may be in for a retrace.

Not much in the queens speech for the next parliament but there was a commitment to HS2. Phases 2a and 2b link in Crewe and Manchester. Does any one on this BB know wether there might be business for Van Elle within this phase.

Alfie, I still retained a lump and bought some more a couple of weeks ago. Still very much a holder.

104.7p being paid, almost the full lowest ask showing, of 105p.

Year to 4/2018 has a forecast of 12p eps and a 3.2p div, which looks right for the March 120p tp. Possibly VANL may be seeing some tip sheet comment, in the light of the upcoming 2017 year-end, given today's interest.

As soon are more folks become better aware of VANL, then that would also make quite a difference.
