Ian Cowie's comment today on ULVR:

Then the Marmite-making foods group, Unilever (ULVR), lifted its final dividend by 4 per cent on Thursday but — like it or loathe it — the share price fell 6 per cent on the news.

Steve Clayton, a fund manager at the platform Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “Restructuring will hold back near-term earnings, perhaps explaining the market’s lack of enthusiasm.”

That seems like an over-reaction, leaving this business under-priced, so I bought more ULVR at £40.27, increasing my investment by a third. It’s now my ninth-biggest holding.

Out of date that article, if you buying BP/Shell now you are on a 6%+ dividend, I’d say that is a good reason to buy, who is to say they will not increase the dividend again with higher oil and gas prices.

Well a nice vote of confidence from Ian Cowie in the Sunday Times increasing his holding by a third. Let's hope he's called this one right. Seems very undervalued at under £40 to me

'* £39.90, your yield is circa 3.7%'

You're quite correct ES. I was using a site where they stated the sterling figures for divs incorrectly, in euros. Idiots!

* £39.90, your yield is circa 3.7%, unless you are making some tax
related deduction on your calc. Luck with your holding.

Bought back in yesterday, too soon at a bit under £41.

Very fortunate as had a large recent position in ULVR,
I thought there may be more short term upside in RCP, which I switched
in to and that's had a lovely week.

Got to put that one down to good fortune rather than any judgement.
Did not foresee the Unilever results reaction.

Just bought my first tranche of ULVR at £39.90. Hopefully if they can get down to £36.00, Í'll buy a lot more. Meanwhile there's a div yield of 3.2% - nothing to write home about, but a lot more than any interest I'd get on any UK savings account.

spoole, that's my point. Where is the margin for error in some of the
these stocks, many already look to have factored in 3 years worth of recovery in advance.

Unless what we are shaping up for boom time economic conditions
where cyclicals earnings trend higher than consensus estimates suggest.

People are looking to stocks that have covid recovery potential, many of these now pay zero dividends and won't for a while as they will need to repair their balance sheets

Identical forces at play, they are going down so let’s keep selling them. Mind you lots of the consumer defensives are getting whacked

spoole, indeed yes that's very evident.

I'm pretty much continually looking at trade/investment opportunities
and it seem that recovery/cyclicals have pretty much backed in a strong recovery
in many (not all) cases. However that's momentum investing for you.

I'm beginning to dread AZN next week.

You may be right, I've seen a couple of comments looking for sub £40.

Makes me a little nervous holding AZN for next weeks FY, seeing both GSK
and ULVR getting whacked on results.
