27/2/2020 11:36 | The truth is shorters knows there be no takeover until coronavirus is over. Global demand for oil is at all time low due to people not travelling abroad, manufacturer producing less as people told to stay indoors. Definitely low 20s on the card . | ![]() icac

27/2/2020 11:01 | Mario, another thing comes to mind and that is funding for research. Presumably more funding increases the chances of developing vaccines and other treatment options, maybe even isolation strategies. Maybe, the hysteria is aimed increased funding. Happened with acid rain for example. Having said that 5% serious cases is quite high. If treatment means that many of those survive where they wouldn't do without hospitalisation or similar, then high level contagion and development of a true pandemic could overwhelm our possibilities of treating these serious cases. Interesting and I guess time will tell us a great deal here. | ![]() stupmy

27/2/2020 10:36 | Found this on the BBC: How deadly is the coronavirus? Based on data from 44,000 patients with this coronavirus, the WHO says: 81% develop mild symptoms 14% develop severe symptoms 5% become critically ill The proportion dying from the disease, which has been named Covid-19, appears low (between 1% and 2%) - but the figures are unreliable. Thousands are still being treated but may go on to die - so the death rate could be higher. But it is also unclear how many mild cases remain unreported - so the death rate could also be lower. To put this into context, about one billion people catch influenza every year, with between 290,000 and 650,000 deaths. The severity of flu changes every year. The stinger your post is too gloomy Alfiex the oil market is reacting to the flu hysteria and Sentiment peak oil is 2029 according to the EIA. All 3 posts are buy signals but price down before up. | ![]() mariopeter

27/2/2020 09:00 | It is very odd mario, this is being treated by the authorities and the press (not just the press) in a very different way to what is usual. That bothers me when the evidence we're presented with by the press does not suggest CORVID 19 is going to be a huge issue. It's being turned into one by the press/authorties. Or, there's more to it. I think with the serious flu pandemics of the past, the first wave of transmission had a relatively low mortality rate and affected largely those who might be considered weakened by pre-existing health issues or old age. Those deaths tend to be accepted relatively easily by the population as a whole as 'natural' causes. They don't cause panic. But the 2nd wave of the great flu pandemics hit healthy people and had a far higher mortality rate. Maybe this is the true fear of the authorities. If this is wave 1 with a significant risk of a further wave then what it's proved is that the world is woefully unprepared to deal with. I personally don't think spread could be contained even with better preparation. Very interesting and worthy of thought. Some very serious minded people are taking it very seriously. Best not to be too trite about it. Although I believe that Pro's view will turn out to be correct. | ![]() stupmy

27/2/2020 08:54 | At this oil price the second tier US Oil companies may be pushed over the edge. The majority are burning cash at unsustainable rates and they now have no access to further borrowings. Tullow is in a bad place but these companies really are on the verge of collapse when the oil price goes down further. | ![]() wodahsnoom

27/2/2020 08:53 | Transmission rates may be the answer but you would have thought WHO advice on avoidance would differ from a regular flu. All very odd but as Pro says it will disappear and imho without enquiry, leaving everyone wondering but more educated on flu hygiene and for us an investment opportunity. | ![]() mariopeter

27/2/2020 07:39 | In a few months time when the world has not died of Corvid-19 the media will shamelessly move on to the US Election and forget Corvid-19 as quickly as they forget SARS and Bird Flu...........which also were going to kill everyone and never did. | pro_s2009 |
