I see that an RNS has been issued today, disclosing that BGF Investment Management has taken a material (3.223%) stake in Tristel, adding it to their healthcare portfolio. I think that is good news, but I wonder who the seller was.I guess we will find out in due course.

Acquisition of 51% of Chrisal, a profitable, high-margin and leading industrial biotech business. Chrisal provides HeiQ with an established position in the US$50 billion probiotics market, 120 products including patented synbiotic products, manufacturing capability for functional consumer goods and access to new markets. Chrisal today serves 40 hospitals with its clinically trialed synbiotic cleaner proven to reduce infection levels by 70-80%.

One thing to be noted is that the three studies, (disinfectant, detergent and probiotic), appear to have been done one after the other on the same areas in 9 different patient rooms...




A comparison of the three independently would be interesting ... though not possible in a hospital environment.

As to competition, they certainly need watching, but there is much proving to be done and old habits die hard.

Discussion
The data presented in this study suggest that probiotic sanitization is an interesting strategy in hospital hygiene management to be further analyzed and validated in randomized clinical studies.

However, traditional disinfectants have shown several major limitations. On one hand, they are not effective against recontamination of the cleaned surface (i.e. disinfection is highly limited in time). Such recontamination phenomena have been reported as early as within the first 30 minutes after disinfection [[10]]. On the other hand, disinfectants may lead to the selection of resistant bacterial strains, not only against the disinfectant itself [[11]] but also against diverse antimicrobial agents

In recent years, the health of hospital surfaces has been rethought, driven by the urgent need for an effective and sustainable solution for hospital sanitization. A new concept of surface health is based on the hypothesis that replacement of bacteria with beneficial microbes might be more effective for the control of pathogens than disinfection measures

Although the benefits of such probiotic strategies have been demonstrated, it is still unclear to what extent the massive inoculation of particular bacterial species affects the microbial structures and ecological balance of the environment. Moreover, the composition of the environmental microbiome upon different sanitation strategies has not been investigated in the clinical setting.

The data presented in this study suggest that probiotic sanitization is an interesting strategy in hospital hygiene management and should be further analyzed in larger multicentre studies. In addition, randomized clinical studies with the endpoint of nosocomial infections are required to further validate the impact of our observations.

I agree buywell3.There is an element of kitchen sinking with these results and we shall know more in 12 months time as Brexit/COVID effects recede. The USA is difficult from a regulatory perspective but management are sounding like a broken record after 7 years and need to make better progress. 335p is still a premium valuation but there is now some upside if all goes well

The CDC recently changed its stance on how Covid-19 is spread

Previously it had said fomites on surfaces was the cause

Now it says it is airborne droplets

Soon the scientific community will get the CDC to say what the cause truly is :

Aerosol transmission up to 11 metres distance indoors and Covid-19 aerosols stay suspended in the air indoors for hours dependent on humidity levels.

can't help thinking had they not paid out such large bonuses to their two executives, the market might have been more forgiving and allowed it to get behind their two discontinued operations. Has been impacted by Covid's deferral of routine procedures. Needs now to obtain FDA approval for ClO2 and pronto, hope there are no further delays.
