If that’s what a positive update does for the SP, I’d hate to see the reaction to mediocre or bad news!

There is a squeeze going on in Brexit stocks.

Some like TPK, the housebuilders and some property stocks had got just too cheap.

If you are replacing the boiler every 5-10yrs you may find it cheaper to simply use electric as a source of heating. Yes the unit price maybe more but good bye to the purchase of a gas boiler and the installation cost every so many years.

Not an "old-fashioned" one, maybe, but certainly the new-fangled ones that seem to have a design life of about 5 years and a scam by the manufacturers to stop supplying spares making them irreparable. I had a floor-mounted Potterton that did around 25 years without a problem until it was 'condemned' for the length of flue. We've had to have 2 new boilers since. The con is that each new version is more 'energy efficient' but how energy-inefficient is buying a new boiler every 5-10 years? The Government need to have serious look at planned obsolescence.

It's rather concerning many large developments in the UK are using heat networks to meet EU low carbon targets. This means many homes will not have gas boiler nor require a gas boiler replacement in 20years time!!!What is even more significant whilst a heat network operator may wish to claim their lovely heat energy centre is "reducing co2" in comparison to alternatives many are not declaring the effectiveness of the configuration for the end user! The customer may be given a heat exchange box that is exclusively managed by the heat operator or the landlord and inside some of the boxes is a delay reacting valve. This valve controls the supply of the heat from the energy centre. The problem with some configurations the valve may take two minutes to open. Therefore during such delay period it is possible the liquid between the customers hot water tank and cold heat exchanger is circulating and allegedly transferring heat out of the hot water tank!! Or should one say cooling the customers hot water tank! The Which magazine did an article some years ago relating to the sector but oddly stop short why customers were complaining of high heat bills in comparison to traditional methods. So there you go a customer complains about the bill - the sector justifies its costs using a cost comparator that may not take into account that in some cases the INTENTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS of the heat configuration may at times be as low as 35% and average 50% over a year. The CMA desperately needs to investigate this problem and stop the unfair monopoly of heat networks. There is an environmental issue here as well. A heat network is suppose to be reducing carbon emissions but how is that possible if customers are provided with a heat configuration that may use more energy? Personally you can't bet an old fashion gas boiler.

From citywire -

"Travis Perkins restructure is positive, says AJ Bell

A restructure at Travis Perkins (TPK) could be just what the builders’ merchants needs after ‘treading water’ but execution will be tricky, says AJ Bell.

The group has announced plans to sell its plumbing and heating division, estimated to be worth between £400 million and £500 million.

It aims to focus on trade customers and hold onto DIY chain Wickes. Analyst Russ Mould said the company was likely to ‘spruce up Wickes’ before considering it for sale at a later date.

‘It is positive to see Travis Perkins make clear strategic decisions as the business has been treading water for some time,’ said Mould.

‘Having a restructuring plan on paper is easy, executing the new strategy and achieving cost savings without disrupting the flow of the business is far from straightforward.R17;"
