Dave: he needs to go - how on earth did he think even Fleet would grow that much let alone 'automotive'. Fleet is reducing... This was 13 months ago! Physical presence in Asia - what - a holiday home?

Here is Watkins talking about the one million ambition. Starts at 39.30. At 42.05 he talks about why a million matters (printing cash in not so many words). He goes on to talk about ambitions that just haven't materialised.

45.08 "we're very successful in the UK. I think we're considered to be the one everyone else has to shoot for." Dear oh dear.

They just need some really key integration with an insurer (and not just public but commercial) and major fleet. It's a sorry story if we listen to Blondy who has nothing but doom with no solutions (while he enjoys his new Havaianas). We know the Watkins family have a firm grip; have the Cowley bros. waiting to upgrade their cattle grids; a Shaftesbury site that lives up to its 'Shafts' name and a load of staff in Coleshill that must be wondering WTF is going on!

It is a shame that the RH never came good, nor Route Monkey. These were the ideal complimentary solutions. I am sorry that this looks like the core Fleet Management connections will dwindle and their sales team are not great at retaining customers as can be shown in the swindling, sorry dwindling, numbers.

The sales team need to get a grip of the reality: in a fiercely competitive telematics market you need to offer key solution to the major companies running fleets and find the niche that will add some value.

Big data would be a start - but I feel that they've missed the boat.

Get rid of the deadwood please JW!

He's already gone from one extreme to the other, we'll have to call him flip flop.

I still believe these so called rubbish contracts have not started shipping and when they do it will change the cash flow and debt position. This debt ridden delay will then be behind them and blonde might even change his or her tune.

On the basis of this discussion, they should remove this from their website:

"Supply OEM vehicle manufacturers with a range of both aftermarket products and line-fit data solutions through its Automotive division".

Interestingly Microlise make the same claims on their website too. Now given their track record is far more proven that Trak's, it could be part of this thinking:

"We are delighted to be able to announce our investment in Trakm8, which will see the two organisations explore exciting opportunities to collaborate.

...

Whilst we both provide telematics services, Microlise and Trakm8 operate in different markets and serve different customer-bases. We believe there are synergies between our two businesses"

Or it might not be...

I thought I did understand how the industry works. Companies pay Trakm8 for the ability to monitor their vehicles or drivers or both. If Trakm8 can integrate with the data coming from the OEM manufacturers in an accurate and efficient way then they can just add these vehicles without a device to the other data coming from their own devices in vehicles which need devices. This will mean devices for those with no OEM option and no devices for those with an OEM option. All of this will be seamless to Trakm8 customer. Otherwise as someone mentioned earlier the OEM's could take some of the market share away from companies like Trakm8 which provide these devices. If Trakm8 can manoeuvre themselves into a position where they use the OEM and/or their own devices surely that's better in the longer term. It's just a thought about R&D spend and OEM manufacturers adding their own telematics to newer vehicles.

You are spot on Blond - an OEM does not need Trak. With 5G and the connected car standards being driven by them, Trak has very little value to add, if any at all. I admire your optimism on AA - this should not be the way out of their mess, they must right size the business for what they do now.

Hang on are they still leasing the Shaftsbury building. I thought they just sold it and that's that. Surely they don't need to keep it. I thought everything had been moved to Birmingham. R&D could be good if it is to develop interfaces with the OEM telematics. That will future proof their position.

I wonder what pearls of wisdom they have to impart to us after analysing all this big data for umpteen years on end.

"The other is a complete waste of cash for the indulgence of the Cowleys"

Now now. Haven't they developed an expensive algorithm that can tell you when you've driven over a cattle grid? Hard nosed businessmen these guys.

Getting confused now...Anyway, I reckon the one in shaftsbury is where they store all that big data. The other is the production line in Coleshill opposite theit HQ.

Are you sure about that? I thought it was their head office in Dorset that they sold and leased back. We're talking about the Coleshill jobbie here.
